What do you think about Erin Andrews suing the Marriott for $75 million over the peephole incident?

If the Marriott was smart they would settle out of court, for a donation to Erin's favorite charity.

I think waiting 7 years to claim damages on anything is a bit sketchy to start with.

Not saying that she wasn't hurt or embarrassed by what happened, but her career certainly hasn't suffered
in any noticeable way. And Marriott may be the most able to pay damages, more than the perv could, but
holding them that accountable is going to be hard to prove.

Good article in SI on this:

I think it will end in a settlement and probably her not staying at that place.

totally agree, she'll probably win the case because Marriott's a huge company, but this will turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to her.

How is it a hotel's fault a pervert drilled a hole in the wall?

Do they have to put concrete in between walls?

Are hotels going to now be required to issue warnings at check in to Not Drill Holes In Wall To Peep On Other Guests?

I will edit this to say they have some negligence in the workers who gave out the info she was there. That part I didnt know before.

Also I never knew he went after other women. What other women & why have they not went after him (unless they did & I just never knew about it)

Maybe they were not aware of what he was doing and those videos were never put in the internet which explains how,
"He allegedly videotaped at least 17 women, including several TV personalities, often on multiple occasions."

If you have seen the video, there is no doubt that she thinks a whole lot of herself...

Lawyers pulled this number outta thin air after 100's of billable hours.

What the guy did was a crime. The hotel chain is at fault for giving out her room info. I'm sure Marriott will settle this out of court to avoid anymore bad PR.

I'm not saying she's my favorite person in the world, but regardless of anyone's personal opinion of Erin Andrews, this isn't like a "celebrity" leaking their own tapes and then acting like a victim. She had a resonsable expectation of privacy in a locked hotel room with the curtains closed.

If she is going to hold old for $75million she's better off buying a PowerBall ticket, but I think Marriott is going to have to pay her something.

I can't get in trouble here for opining that this was all staged? If so, I apologize. If not, it obviously was.

My guess is that this guy may have filmed other women celebs but did not find them in nearly as much undress as he found Erin (aka he got "lucky" with her), which is why they didn't find their way to the Internet as well.

If Erin's lawyers can prove that the hotel chain knew about this guy and what he was doing...how does someone attempt this crap multiple times without anyone knowing?

it will all comes down to judge. since he will have final say so on if 75 million law suite is worth it or not. to me asking for that much in damages way to much. that why i wish we had law where people can not sue for ungodly amount money. since people will go out way to find way get money easy way to live off of. got to be point in life where courts something else in limited how much person can get in damage. since people ask for way to much money.

Actually chrislognshot it could come down to a jury instead of a judge. For those who are surprised Erin's lawyers would file a lawsuit so long after the incident, that's what happens. I know. I've been on both sides of big money lawsuits. It's very likely that behind the scenes the two sides have been negotiating for years and if it's anything like my experiences it seems like everything stops for months on end then gets going again when something significant happens on one side or the other. That's why it drags out for so long. If negotiations get to an impasse and time is running out on the statute of limitations a lawsuit will be filed not so much to go to trial but to get the attention of the other side that this is serious business that isn't going to go away and to keep the option open to go to trial.

Why so much money? 1 - to get the attention of the other side. 2 - If it's true that this isn't the first time that the hotel chain had something like this happen and they did little or nothing to stop it, it's a way to make them feel enough pain to do something about it. I'm reminded of the famous McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit. My friend studied it at law school. Turns out there were many people who got seriously burned from the excessively hot coffee they were serving. McD's settled with each of them for an amount of money that seemed like a lot for each plaintiff but was spare change for McD's. They did nothing to fix the problem to keep more people from being burned. McD's had to have to pay out enough money to get them to take notice and do something to fix the problem. That could be the motive behind the big amount in Erin's lawsuit.

As for it being the hotel's fault for the peeping, a guest has a reasonable expectation of privacy and a hotel has a reasonable duty to have proper security (cameras, security guards, locked doors, etc.) to ensure that. That could extend liability to the hotel chain.

About the impact to Erin, it's not just about a career and money-making potential. Think of this if it were your wife, girlfriend or daughter who had this happen. A woman that has something like this happen feels violated and that's worth making those responsible suffer also, either financially or by being imprisoned or both, and the woman being somehow compensated for that.

True -- this would be a jury case if it gets that far.

But on the filing itself, I should amend what I said up top --she didn't wait as long as we thought.
The suit actually was filed first back in 2010, not just recently. That would've been
about 2 yrs. after the incident. And then it was amended in 2011.

http://www.si.com/more-sports/2015/10/1 ... 75-million

At the time, Erin was seeking $6 million from Marriott, and $4 million from Barrett, for
a total of $11 million.
The recent bump-up to $75 Million is probably another amendment, as you said, to get things moving if talks have
stalled lately --she and her team probably know it won't come near that in the end.

so if this were just a regular unknown woman, would the same $75 million apply?

Erin is different than regular women because she is a celebrity. If this had happened to a regular woman, it would be just as tragic, but the video wouldn't have spread like wildfire like it did because it was Erin.
