What plays a .gsd extention???!

It's mpeg-2. I don't know why that extension though. Also the video is SD, but the preview is HD.

Windows Media Player plays it. Isn't that fairly basic? I guess if you have a MAC or that open source the other guy mentioned. VLC? Anyway, yes, the preview is HD. It's from Cobra. Hence, my thanks to him.

Use VLC to make your own previews. Windows Media Player is only good for... uh..... nothing!

Please think about the downloaders of videos. Would you not be ticked to see an HD preview cap and then find out the video you downloaded was SD?

Fine, then I won't even give a preview cap. Let's see how many downloads I get then. I mean I'm new at this and I've barely gotten any feedback. I'll do more HD. But that is a more costly thing for me to do. I'm trying out various things at the moment.

I'm not harping on you. But you've been on this site for quite a while and you can tell that people who post videos also post previews.... and they also do their own. And, yeah, if you refuse to do previews then nobody will download your stuff. That goes without saying. As I said, VLC player can take snapshots (click the video tab up top then click snapshot). Good luck.

O, I know. But there's a reason that I'm not posting previews. I'm doing it directly from a dvd. No capping. If I could do caps, I would. Right. Got it. VLC. I'll look into that.

If your video is on a file host (like rapidshare) then it's obviously not on a dvd... hence, you can play it on a computer and use vlc to take previews. Pretty simple stuff.

Well, if you're new to this, that's fine. But you should know...

Rule #1 when posting video. Always include a preview of what is in the clip. Do not use someone else's HD shots for a clip that contains something entirely different. I would have downloaded it myself had Donkeed not given the heads up in an earlier reply. And I would have been annoyed too because the content was not what the preview dictated.

In the end, you'll hurt yourself more by falsely advertising the file contents than by not posting any previews at all. Because word gets around that you don't deliver what you offer.

My advice, follow shadow's suggestion and make a few shots of what you want to post and upload those. People will see then what is in the file and you should get downloads. Most importantly, you're staying honest, which, believe it or not, actually matters to many, many downloaders (self included).

Here are a few caps from your GMA vid and one from a Bloomberg one you did. Play the video with vlc and take the snapshots like I said (best to pause the video first). In options you can take the snapshots in jpg or png (I prefer png and then I convert to jpg later).

I meant to say "HQ". My player has various speeds. HQ gives me about an hour. HSP is about 1:25 minutes. I generally use the 2:30 one. Long enough with still a good enough quality for me.

Another thing.... VLC player can also play DVDs.

Yeah, I was just giving a general idea. I think I just did one preview before and I felt bad because people weren't downloading and I figured it was because of a lack of a preview. Still it was all four of them on a couch so I don't think I was completely falsely advertising but I see your point. Without malice, I would say. But I know that for sure. If I were expecting Kate Snow and got Courtney Friel, i know I would be quite peeved.

Right. I'll look into it. I was just reading about it and it seemed complicated but maybe it's because I was too intimidated by the various jargon and once I try it out, it will be easier.

Quick question. The preview that you get in your window explorer of a cd or dvd when you put it into your computer. Is there a way to save that?
