On dscaler it only finds the car type I have which is ATI Wonder VE. Would the card type be on some manual? I am losing the cable boc soon and then my DVR has no remote so can't connect via composite. On Power VCR, I can't get channels thru tuner. I have to go buy a panasonic universal remote for my DVR or I won't be able to program the machine as I am now stuck with basic cable.

Plus I have to find the cord for audio because doing it this way the red, white and yellow cables won't work anymore. Unless I get the dvr to work again.

Check Device Manager. It should have some info...maybe chipset or something you can search with.

You have to install the driver to show in Sound, video and game controllers

Have you tried MP Classic? because it also can do live caps :?
Also try VLC for live video

OK I will try them....my problem is that for now I was trying to connect the cord from the outlet into the back of the tuner and no channels come up under the tuner option in dscaler. I had been using composite for a while instead of going thru tuner as in I connected the cable from the outlet to the dvr I have and then from the dvr either into a cable box that went to the back of the computer or directly from the dvr into the back of the computer. For now I was hoping to view tv from the outlet to the computer that way until I get the remote for the dvr. I'll try VLC and see what I get.

As for that dvr remote..I figured out what remote I need. If I would get the remote then I could program the dvr and connect to the dscaler thru composite again.

Also I have to go into my closet and find the audio cord if I do get video thru the tuner to get audio. Otherwise I may have to wait till I buy what I need.

The dscaler wanted to know what Tuner I was using because the setup card.tuner area had tuner unknown. without a proper tuner channels won't come in this way.

I bought this card in 2004. It is an ATI Wonder VE edition. The software with it sucks. That and the original cd broke, but then I bought a graphics card from the same company and it installed the updated drivers for the tuner.

I had found a picture of the tuner I have last night when I looked for it....let me post it in a minute.

Here is the tuner I use:

http://static.ubid.com/mgen/vximg/scale ... 22,275,275

The tuner is a ATI TV Wonder VE edition

By the way the newer CD with the graphics card looks exactly like the one in that picture. That ATI graphics card was bought in late 2006. As I said above I broke the original CD when moving in 2005.

and my dvr, in case you wondered:

The DVR is a RCA DRS7005N

I actually am confused with using VLC player. I just tried reading a tutorial at videohelp.com and was lost.

It's easier using MP Classic than VLC
With VLC go to file open capture device press configure to see if your tuner name is listed :? mine is listed but i can only get it to work with MP classic
Why can't you use the software that came with the tuner?

If you are making stills, then why don't you just use dscaler? Your card is supported.

That's good to know, but I can't find the tuner model....without going thru composite I can't get live tv on the dscaler to work. With the DVR on the fritz can't use composite as I don't have the remote to program the dvr.

The software with the tuner is diffcult to install and use. It's a mess installing it. The player runs with drivers that are a mess to find and they don't all come on the cd. The cd sends you to the web to get a graphics driver. An no instructions on how to install it. Drives me up the wall. I've ranted about it here many times. When it finally as it did last time before I had a hard drive crash....The software is junk for capping. The timeshift it uses is a mess. Once the shifting occurs then it is impossible to get the tv back live.

ok I might as well. I think losing the original disc might be why Dscaler can't find the tuner anyways. As I never installed it after the crash two years ago. I'm getting the remote tomorrow anyhow for the Dvr at best buy so I will be able to get the dvr to work for now. But I may get a new tuner anyways.
