Quote:
“Today” co-host Natalie Morales is planning her next TV move because of the tense atmosphere behind the scenes of the NBC show.
Sources tell us that Morales’ reps have been looking for other roles for her amid a power struggle with fellow host Tamron Hall and NBC News chief Deborah Turness.
Popular Morales joined “Today” in 2006 as a national correspondent, and was promoted to the third-hour co-host. She’s been passed over for a top anchor spot several times, including as Ann Curry’s replacement. The role went to Savannah Guthrie.
But Page Six can reveal NBC News President Turness hasn’t talked to Morales in months and instead wishes to promote Hall into a bigger role.
A NBC source told Page Six, “There’s a lot of tension. Natalie and Tamron are competitive, and there was a big blow up in October between the two. Deborah has an issue with Natalie and has sided with Tamron. There has been zero communication between Deborah and Natalie for a long period of time. Its the talk of NBC staff.”
The source added that Morales had lunch with “Today” executive producer Don Nash last week about the problem, “and she didn’t get the reassurance she had hoped for about her future at ‘Today.’ ” The show also has option of using former “GMA” anchor Josh Elliott after his noncompete clause expired. But he is expected to be busy in his sports role for at least the next few months.
A separate insider added, “Natalie’s agent at WME has been reaching out discreetly looking for other opportunities for her. She could be interested in a talk show.” WME had no comment.
But another source countered, “Natalie has two more years on her ‘Today’ contract. Her agent has not made one outgoing call. Other networks have been calling them.”
Nash said in a statement, “This is total nonsense. As the ‘Today’ show continues to gain momentum, it sounds like someone is trying to stir up trouble that doesn’t exist. Natalie Morales is valued by everyone at the news division from the top down, and her future is with the ‘Today’ show and NBC News.”

If true then I can see why. TV is dying with the news media and weather outfits going thru what other sectors like daytime talk shows, soaps, late night talk shows and others have been going thru a few years. Tv might be dying. I don't say it lightly. It is my take after reading and becoming aware of so much trouble with the industry. Fox News has even had issues as you can see by what happened to Alysin Camerota, Courtney Friel and Greg Jarrett.

This sort of thing seems to happen a lot more often at the Today Show than other programs...

They can't go more than a year or two before some new "feud" erupts.
It's become the home of high-maintenance, millionaire crybabies.

If I were the executive producer there, I don't know how I could tolerate the drama from these people (and their agents).
I'd sit everyone down, tell them to dial it back, or else. :?

I actually like the Today Show but I wouldn't watch it if Natalie wasn't there. Roker is a buffoon. Lauer is overrated & overpaid. I'll steer clear of the ladies. Natalie is very popular so if there's any issues it's likely a jealously thing. I see it with Lauer for sure. But I'm all for Natmo doing a talk show with those legs out there the whole time - Hell Yeah!!

The talk show field is already saturated. Even Katie Couric with her immense popularity couldn't survive and a talk show was the perfect place for her. Where is there room for anothe newcomer in that field? I would likely be more of the same with a different host. I'll be surprised if Meredith Vieira's show lasts. I think Natalie's best hope is that someday CBS or CNN get it together and do a decent morning program that she could lead.

I hope this isn't true. The day would not be the same without Natmo's great legs. She gets me going in the morning!

Bottom line from both articles:

An executive (Jamie Horowitz) went rogue and got fired for suggesting crazy ideas no one agreed with.
NBC fired Horowitz, the show's senior vice president and general manager, after just three months on the job earlier this week."Willie and Natalie were never told they were fired," the NBC insider told the News.
"The memo was written by former 'Today' show general manager Jamie Horowitz, who was fired Monday afternoon, for various reasons, including the fact that this memo of proposed changes got leaked."

Don't mess with my Natmo! :Boxing

One of the things that I'm sure a lot of us would wonder is what could have caused Horowitz to even
entertain the idea of giving NatMo the boot.

Here's what (IMO) it might have come down to:

A number of the articles out there today say that Natalie is pretty popular with most viewers, even
female viewers.... So you'd think she'd be pretty secure, right?

But one thing I'm also seeing is that some think Natalie's gotten passed over for those promotions over the
last few years because --as appealing she may be to look at, or likable, she doesn't have enough "sass" going on.
Think about it -- we hardly ever hear her blurt out the kind of things Meredith or even Katie used to.

Natalie burns rather cool most of the time, and because of that, others tend to overpower her in conversations.
Perfect example of that is Tamron -- and this isn't anything to diss her -- but Tamron's basically got the
kind of verve that you see in Kathie Lee... sometimes too much oversharing, not knowing when to dial it down.

My guess is Horowitz was banking on his plan of cutting loose some of what he saw as the not-so-strong
personalities like Natalie and Willie being seen as good strategy by NBC, but they balked and kicked HIM out
instead.

So for now, their jobs are safe -- but as Agent Mulder might say:
"Trust no one."
:?

the guy got brought in to turn around the ratings of a failing show.
how was he supposed to do that without changing any of the on-air people?

NBC isn't paying Josh Elliot all that money for nothing. Sooner or later he will have a Today show role, that means someone is gone.

I want to see less of the smug, arrogant Matt Lauer and his skinny legged pants.

Hopefully I won't get scolded for bumping this post but it is still relevant. Lauer did a 260 mile bike ride for "Red Nose" which could have been so much more admirable. It took him all week (4+ days) to finish and he b*tched & moaned the whole time about everything from the weather to the hills he had to bike. Natalie would have finished in a day which is the average for a person who is a decent athlete of which NatMo surpasses. But what really pi$$ed me off was that as each anchor joined Lauer on his wimpy journey over the week when Natalie joined him he just had to rag on her simply because she was enjoying the bike ride venture but praised portly Savannah since she made him look manly (as if that's possible).
Lauer and Al "skin flap" Roker constantly rag on Nat for her athletic prowess. It torques my jaws to no end! At least Savannah and Willie support Natalie for her athleticism and respect how hard she works to get those results at 42 yrs old.
Yes friodo Lauer is the definition of smug! He needs his a$$ kicked bigtime!

Well...let's see Mr. Kay...I thoroughly checked the rules & regs as well as the definition of portly defined by Websters and concluded that by definition I would not be guilty of of the specific crime you may have impled. Savanahh is portly. It is a fact. Accept it. It does not mean she is not loved or does not have endless admirers. I think you need to deal with that particular reality. If you have issues related to portly please feel free to PM me. I would welcome the chance to discuss your issues with you. Image

for the record, i dont think shes portly and dont care what webster has to say about that.
