| Post subject: | Firewire screencap question. |
I am currently using Capdvhs through a firewire from my hd Comcast box and am able to record it to harddrive. Although I can't watch the tv on my pc when recording. And then to make screencaps I then have to watch it through some other player and make the snapshots. Does anybody else use a different software to take the screenshots watching the tv live versus having to cap the video once it's completed? Thanks, Jim |

robespierre I just started doing this not too long ago myself. My set up is a little different than yours probably. I have a 32 lcd hdtv and have my tv and computer hooked up to the same tv so I am able to do PIP and have split screen, one for pc one for tv. I can use tv to watch and then record with capvhs. The only real suggestion I have would be either if you can have another tv in the same room and just watch on the tv and record on the pc. Another option would to get a hd dvr from Comcast. Save the shows on the dvr then just play back and hit record, though you wont be able to watch it you would have to just record it on your hard drive altogether. The bad side is recording these files can take up hard drive space real fast. I did a quick test of a like a minute or two and i think the file was like 166mb. Maybe someone else who uses this method could chime in with another option. I will admit it would be difficult to do it when you cant see what you are recording. But I dont think you can record and cap at the same time. You would have to let capvhs record first and then play the file back using vlc or nero or whatever program you are currently using. |
