Vids over 100 MB's get posted all the time here. How'd they do that? :Joker

You basically have 2 options:

1) Use a program like hjsplit:
http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

To split the file into 2 chunks (.001 and .002) which can be uploaded to Rapidshare then the downloader just uses hjsplit to put it back together.

2) (the Better option) just upload to:
http://www.megaupload.com/

It takes files up to 500 MB.

Really? I just started capping a month ago or so. RS said on it's homepage that it had a 100MB file limit, so I try to stop the recording before it goes over 100MB, just in case. Never used hjsplit, but I'll give it a look.
- Ok, i downloaded HJsplit, and it turned my 111MB asf video into 2 files. Filetype "001" and "002", but it appears it's become a "Pan & scan" video, where you can't fast forward or skip ahead. I had to open it with Media Player Classic. You know if this result is normal?

Nope, not until you just mentioned it. I looked through it just now and saw the "process file" part :shame
I downloaded AVS video converter, but the free version takes forever and puts an ad stamp every 10 seconds or so. I would just cap around it if needed. Well, this is all good news. Thanks both of you for the heads up.

The reason you cannot skip through the video is the 2 pieces 001 & 002 need to be rejoined using hjsplit,it will then play perfectly :D

members have to download both parts then join them together themselves using hjsplit.

There is another option to splitting files, you can use Winrar, there is a setting to split the archive at zip 100 which splits the rar file into 100mb pieces,
members then download all the parts of the rar and use winrar to extract the video :D

Winrar also has the added bonus that the audio can be compressed to reduce the file size, but you will only achieve a maximum of 3-5% compression [dependant on the actual audio streams bitrate]

If you use the Rapidshare Upload Manager that Donkeed has used for some of his large clips and you are a premium user, you can upload a file larger than 100MB up to 2GB to RS. The catch is that only Premium users can download those files. :Kool

Don't forget that we have the Software Resource and Links post up above. :Kool

How to Join Files with HJ-Split
HJ-Split Home Page:
Code:
http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

After downloading & unzipping the program, open it (double-click).

This is the main display you should see (Version 2.2, Windows)

Browse to the directory where the downloaded files are located ( all files must be located in the same directory for HJ-Split to work properly ).
Image

Click on the "JOIN" button - a new window will pop-up
Image

Now choose the first input file of the series. Click on the "INPUT FILE" button on the left side of the window, and another dialogue window will come up.
Image
NOTE : The ENTIRE series of files needs to be in the same location (example: on the Desktop). However, ONLY THE FIRST FILE will actually show. So for example, if there are files

FILENAME.001
FILENAME.002
FILENAME.003
...
FILENAME.159

only the first file FILENAME.001 will show, but you need to make sure all 159 of the files are there, otherwise the join will fail.

Once you've chosen the correct first file in the series to join, simply click the "START" button and the file will join automatically.
When it's finished, close both windows, exiting the program.

After MAKING SURE THE FILE RUNS PROPERLY, you can go ahead and delete the temporary .001, .002, .003, ... files.

Another cool thing is if you split mpeg-2, the parts play with MPClassic. You can even edit the parts with no quality loss with VideoRedoPlus or Womble. :Kool
