Post subject:  Which Resolution is best for viewing And Making Caps
My Caps look very blurry at 800 x 600 but look great at 1024 x 768. I keep my monitor at 800 x 600 all of the time. Is that the right setting? Or should i set it to a higher res?

The higher res. make everything look small though.

Caps should be made at whatever the native resolution of the program is.

For most regular analog programming it's 640x480.

720p HD - 1280x720

1080i HD- 1920x1080

For your monitor the max resolution should be somewhere in the hardware specs. It would be pointless to set it above that. If you want things to appear larger you can always set it lower than the max. Also check to see if the aspect ratio of the res is the same as your monitor to avoid distorting.

You should make your caps at the same resolution of the original video regardless of what your monitor is set to. DVD's are slighty higher resolution than SDTV, but you can set those to cap at 640x480.

In the end it all comes down to what works. If your caps turn out better in a specific res, then just go with that. :Kool

Sorry it took so long for me to respond. But what i meant to ask is what resolution do you guys set your monitor to?

For example 800 x 600 caps look great when my monitor is set at 1024 x 768. But look like crap when my monitor is set at 800 x 600.

Do you guys set your monitor to a higher or lower resolution when viewing my caps? This way i will know whether to up scale or down scale my caps.

Why would you set your monitor to 800 x 600 unless you're playing a game that's too graphically intensive for your system? :?

1024x768 should be the minimum res. for your desktop.

That's what I use most of the time on my PC (although I bump it up to 1280x1024 for some games).

When I use a laptop that I do work on it's the native res. of 1920x1200.

LCD (flat-panel) monitors have a resolution that they are best suited to (typically their max resolution). Same goes for laptops. Whenever you don't run the monitor at the optimum resolution, everything should look crappy. Of course, sometimes the max resolution is something dumb where the text becomes micron sized. Then you have to deal with it.

But, I could just be buying POS monitors and laptops and this problem doesn't happen with quality equipment.
