Post subject:  Can anyone suggest a good program for joining WMV files?
I have a various clips that I need to join together in order to create one video (all are split from the exact same video, and as such, will fit seamlessly if brought as one). Can anyone recommend a good program (preferably free) for joining WMV clips? If possible, software that has been tested and has not affected your PC (i.e. crashes, reboots, spyware problems, etc.).

I would appreciate your input. If there is anywhere to ask this question... it's here. This forum certainly knows their stuff. :Thumb

I use a free program called "easy video joiner"

Hmmm...

Easy Video Joiner is showing a 7-day trial period on the one that I downloaded. Not quite sure what that's about.

I also had frequent audio dropouts and long pauses where the clips join. I had much better results with AVI MPEG RM WMV Joiner. I had none of the audio problems... although I did still have minor pauses where the clips join together (at every spot). Better than EVJ, but I am going to try one more program before sticking with the latter (Movie Joiner).

Maybe the pauses are a problem with all of these programs?

Doesn't windows movie maker combine wmv files. Just load them up, edit them, and export as a new file.

This is a side project for a friend (that I am not being compensated for) and combined with my own work... I would like to remove the editing process because it just becomes so much less of a priority - and I do not wish to take that approach. My experience and knowledge of Windows Movie Maker is that it will require for me to join the clips together at just the right spot (not sure... I'll check it out and report back... may be very simple... thanks for the reminder).

Another concern of mine is quality loss or resampling the bit rate. With the joiners, there is no loss... it simply combines the files.

Movie Maker does have a setting for quality bitrate adjustment on export. I just checked it, and the export functon has 720x480, 2.1Mbps, 30fps (NTSC). Do you need it higher than that?

And you don't have to edit anything. If the movie is just split into parts then load them and export the whole thing without edits.

I don't know any software that actually merges the files into one large file. Most video software exports as a seperate file. Nero is good, but no WMV option.
