| Post subject: | Can't Play ANY of the Rapid Share Video Clips! |
I cannot play ANY of the Rapid Share download video clips of the Fox News women. I have tried both Real Player and Windows Media Player. I have alternated between Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers, but still no joy. All I get is a blank screen. Even when I go to the Real Player site for an upgrade, I get an error message saying I have insufficient disk space - but this does not ring true, as I still 61 GB left! Can somebody please tell me why these Rapid Share video clips won't play on my Windows XP HE computer? |

Use this player, it's free and plays most anything. Works for me: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ |

Get codecs! That's why you're having trouble. Divx, xvid, etc... |

This belongs in in the tech support forum. It sounds like a Real Player issue. Try saving the file and playing with a different player. |

Like they said above either get the codecs or use VLC. And, please stop using Real Player. It's bloated crapware that no one should be using. |

If you tried to play them in the Windows Media Player, they sometimes tell you what codec is needed. |

As an alternative to Real Player (which you may need)... use Real Alternative: http://www.free-codecs.com/Real_Alternative_download.htm No spyware, no unnecessary consumption of your memory. And unfortunately... VLC does not play every file for me (but it is very rare... maybe 1 out of 50 files) |

As stated earlier, VLC does not play all files for me (I always try Media Player Classic as well). Where can I download codecs (a trusted site that some of you have utilized)? |

Where can I download codecs (a trusted site that some of you have utilized)? If WMP lets me know which codec I am issing, I usually Google it. |

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply... unfortunately, WMP has always given me an error message of 'Error downloading codec' for the life of my current... and previous PC (no matter the OS or reinstalls). I downloaded DivX (again) on my other PC that I don't care too much about, and the file that I wished to view worked - but it's like everything is in slow motion. Too bad you can't just download a DivX codec. Having yet another player on my PC just doesn't seem worth it. The list is already at: 1. Real Alternative 2. QuickTime Alternative 3. WMP 4. Media Player Classic 5. VLC (I mean, seriously, that is far too many players. But I just found out through this post that VLC plays QuickTime AND Real files so I'll test those out and delete the two if it all works out) Thanks again. P.S. Anyone have any problems with the K-Lite Codec pack? Oh and the file that I was trying to play was this one: http://wideworldofwomen.net/WWW/viewtopic.php?p=225083#225083 (HDTV 1280x720, Xvid, 8:28, 246MB clip) Anyone have any luck playing it without DivX? If so, maybe a specific codec is all that I need. |

I think you're missing the XVid codec thus the black screen: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ BTW, it could be that your PC is to slow to play HD clips. What are your specs & OS? |

Dual-core 3.0GHz Intel Pentium D Processor 925, 7200rpm 250GB Serial ATA hard drive and 1024MB of advanced DDR2 memory - 224MB shared graphics. XP Home is my OS. Thanks - the XviD codec works in Media Player Classic and WMP but not VLC (just a black screen as before). Speed is cool now but even though it now plays in the aforementioned, the screen is split into two (can't capture it as it won't play in VLC to use that feature). I have NEVER had this much trouble figuring out PC problems. I am usually able to handle this type of thing by a simple web search. |

Every AVI is going to be compressed (codecs) otherwise the files are huge. Here's a good site for codecs http://www.free-codecs.com/ |
