Don't laugh, I am dumb when it comes to this kind of stuff, but at least I admit it. :jetserl But here it goes....why when I watch a DVD does it look like crap on my screen? I have DirecTV and HD channels so why do my DVD's look so horrible? How do you watch a DVD in HD? Can you?

Everything looks like crap when you connect to the yellow RCA jack on a HDTV :(
Try the Component connections if the player has it :shades or buy a blu ray player with upconvert

This. :Thumb

Also try an HDMI cable if your player supports it.

There's also a possiblity that your DVDs are SD only. Some DVDs are labelled "widescreen" rather than "high definition", i.e. 480p letterboxed in 16:9 aspect ratio to mimic 720 or 1080 resolution video.

If your HD channels look HQ but it's just when you play a DVD then your DVD player is SD. Plus I find that DVD quality is crap. Anything I download or buy that's in DVD quality doesn't compare to 720p or 1080p. Now I don't know the technical explanation behind it but I'm think you gotta go bluray to get what you want. If I download a video in 720p or 1080p it looks fantastic but if I download a DVD video it looks like crap.

I'm confused. Isn't this topic a year old?

(Also, I don't even remember writing the above reply. :? )

:Coyote I wondered why there were 2 different ?s in the same post the second 1 being current. SSndstorm, being new, put his comment in this post instead of starting a new one. I didn't even see the original date. Ha, ha...that's funny.
