Comcast HD to computer

Thinking about getting a Comcast HD recorder and was wondering what it would take to get the HD signal to my laptop to be able to cap in HD.

There are two options. One is fire wire out of the cable box to the laptop.

The other option would be to buy a PVR and connect it to the laptop.

If you want to skip renting Comcast's equipment, here's a third option: CableCard tuner. Ceton, SiliconDust and Hauppauge make USB versions of these tuners.

This is the route I've used for the last 3 years because the television signal is going straight to your PC/laptop rather than the "capture" method of a PVR. In other words, excellent picture quality.
