I liked it because it tells you the quality and size of the file before you save it
now the download arrow has a red X on youtube
but it still works on other sites

It could be some under the hood changes at YouTube. I usually use the Keepvid website to download vids from there, and it too would give you a list of file types and sizes in their links, but the website now hangs as it's trying to process the links. Tried a Vimeo link on it, and that worked. YouTube seems to do stuff like this every so often, maybe because of sites/plug-ins like this.

I've been using IDM (Internet Download Manager) for years. IMO it is the greatest thing since sliced bread so to speak. It picks up 90% of all the video on most websites. It displays a great little download window that when you click it even gives you a dropdown with all the possible resolutions available from which you can choose. It works great with youtube for that reason.  I just used it today for youtube and Fox's ATSS and it worked flawlessly and super quick. |

IDM is the best program I have used. It is similar to the realplayer downloader but much better. Having said that a secondary source, won't work with every site but will with tons of the most popular ones, is Freemake's Youtube Downloader. I found it so much better than Orbit that went downhill since 2010 that I replaced it on my Windows 8.1 laptop from Gateway. It does a few things IDM can't do, like extract just the audio of videos, so it is a handy tool. Then I have two video screen recorders for any site that fails to work with IDM or to record live streams. Replay Video Catcher and Debut which is a back up. There are others out there. In fact Wikipedia has a list of some of the various software out there and that is how I found Freemake's site.
