My Hauppauge HD PVR just blew. I was cleaning my office and unhooked all of my electronics. When I plugged everything back in, I accidentally plugged the wrong power adapter in the Hauppauge, and it started to smoke a bit. Now it won't come on at all. What a bummer. :x :(

That sucks, hope you get back in action soon you are one of the best. :Kool

My capping setup is on the disabled list as well. :jetserl

I swapped out my router and I haven't had time to mess with the security settings so the files won't transfer. :Doh

I certainly hope both Art and joeycap666 can try to find a reasonably priced unit, so we can enjoy a nice return to the awesome caps we have enjoyed for a few years.

Please don't give up hope, ok? I am sure there should be a deal online or at your local store of choice.
Good luck in finding a unit that should fit your needs. :)

I have the PCI version of the Hauppauge HD PVR and it works great.
Went with the PCI card to have one less external device and a direct connection from the tuner to the pc.

When using this pvr does one need to install any hardware in a laptop to be able to cap? I have been putting off buying the Hauppauge since I am not computer literate and wasn't sure of all the software/hardware I would need.

Yes,there's software to install. But it's really not that difficult to hook up. And you can always call customer service if you get stuck. Or watch some tutorials on Youtube. Check out the link for more info.

For a laptop you would buy the USB version.

You connect the USB cable from the PVR to the laptop and connect the cable box to the PVR.

Thanks, looks like HDMI from cable box to in, HDMI from PVR to TV and USB from PVR to laptop. Load software and I'm good to go?

I don't think you can record/cap with HDMI. I believe there is some kind of copy protection associated with it. You may need to use component cables to connect from cable box to the Hauppauge.

Really sorry about that Art. If there's a good upskirt while you're laid up I'll send you the raw file so you can post something to jackin4beatz1

:jetserl @ "DON'T CLEAN!" Trust me,I won't make that mistake again. I don't think people realize though, that this is a really old thread, and I got a new Hauppauge months ago lol But I thank everyone for their help and support. This has actually turned out to be a good tech help thread for others.

:D

I just looked at that link for the HD PVR 2 1512 and it is a lot smaller than the 1212. Should come with the proper cables for STB/PS3 and XBX360. I wonder if the upcoming PS4 (coming 11/15 at midnight) and XBOX One will have HDCP rendering it useless for those consoles. I don't know if it's still there or not, but my local Best Buy had a 1212 on clearance for $105 (not open box). You would have to drive clear to Grand Island, Nebraska for that price since online they're still selling for about $160.
