So the government doesn't need SOPA/PIPA to shut down websites no wonder they didn't put a fight over it they just gave up.

If some of the company's servers or offices are in the US, they will be targeted soon enough. The MegaUpload bust will give the FBI a treasure load of files that have been uploaded there and what could be uploaded at other file hosting sites since I am sure 99% of the time the same file name is used. After reading more stuff about the bust and what was hosted on MegUpload, don't worry about any of your friendly cappers going down. We will be considered to be small fish since they can snag MANY piraters and child pornographers among the uploaders. They'll go after them first before going after a capper who posted a 30 sec clip from a movie or TV show.

I recommend using Rapidshare.com or Netload.in to host your clips since they are more Swiss based than German based. :Kool

When I go to my free FileServe account, two things kind of jump out.

First, my hefty $2.37 in earnings over the last few months disappeared without a trace. Must have been just my imagination...

Second, FS is still promoting their Premium Account upgrade, as if it's business as usual. Hey, check out this amazing offer: for as little as 13 cents per day ($99.99 for 730 days, a Best Buy), I can enjoy unlimited downloads at maximum speeds of... yeah, that's right... any files that I had uploaded to FileServe myself. Wow, what a sweet deal!

What I'm finding the last 24 hours or so is that a number of the file hosts I'm testing are timing out with errors during uploads,
and in some cases, uploads going to 100% only to fail to show any links at the conclusion.

Netload, which Rocky suggested above, is basically unresponsive right now... They're there, but all I'm getting
is "sending request" endlessly once I've hit "upload now".

Assuming that's all due to them being terribly unprepared for all the extra traffic coming their way.

I'm attempting to make repairs to some previous threads, and at this rate, it's
going_______________to_____________take______________for----------------ever. :Doh

It depends upon when you are uploading. The main servers are located in Germany and/or Switzerland for both RS and Netload and they are 6 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET). Therefore, the best uploading or downloading time would be after 8pm ET (2am CET) when their traffic is less busier. :Kool

I seem to get the best speeds off RS after 1am ET. Around 5am ET, the connections start to suck again.

Everything that I have ever uploaded, MU or otherwise, is backed up on an external hard drive. This has allowed me to re-up everything in my Robin Meade megathread to Rapidshare (the last files were finally upped and reposted, BTW). I had a few other things uploaded on MU, but they were mostly older home shopping video files. If there's any interest in them or other stuff I had on MU, I might upload them upon request.

However, with the influx of new users after MU shut down, it seems as if RS has reinstated a wait time between files for free users as well as throttled downloads. Still, they're the veteran of most current file hosts, so I'll stick with them for now.

I echo HSF's comments. I posted several clips on MegaUpload but I have all of them backed up on DVD or on an EXT HD. It will take me time to go through everything and get them back up. The toughest clips to recover would be those who are not active anymore such as Kevin. I saved some of his clips but not all. So some will be lost to history unless he comes back and rehosts them.

I am sure he is ok. Last I know is that his company got busy in repairing foreclosed homes and he got engaged. That is enough to keep any guy busy. :Kool

Just noticed that F i l e S e r v e is working again for downloading files other than one's own uploads. Apparently back to business as usual. Did they relocate their servers, or what?

Free (registered) user DL speed: 500 KBps, averaging only 23 minutes per 700 MB, same as always. Beats all those silly -bits (letitbit, turbobit, extabit,...) by a factor of 10 to 1 or more. No waiting time, either. I even forgive them the $2.37 they stole from me. :twisted:

Don't now what they did but I think there was a panic mode until they fully assessed the situation. If all of their servers are out of the US, then DOJ can't reach them unless they us the other country court system. :Kool

True - it actually happened about a week ago... I brought it up in another thread:

For the most part, there seems to have been a random deletion of files, some of my old links work, some don't, as
do others' links.

But according to that list I found on server locations, they did have servers located in the U.S.A.
