I looked up some tv tuners and under system requirements found "(will not work with USB 1.1)". Does that really mean it won't work well? Both of the computers in my house are around 10 years old. Does anyone here have something really similar or of that brand (link below) that they use with low speed usb? http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/ ... r950q.html For my setup and what I want to do(cap the news primarily), that is the product I'm focused on. I really don't want to put in a PCI card for high speed USB when I plan on getting a new system in the next year or so. If it really won't work, I'll just wait to buy it and oh well. Just wanting someone's opinion, thanks. Edit: After some more looking, it seems that it won't work properly and I've read things about it crashing/freezing computers. Just another reason to get a new computer I guess. |

I guess you answered your question. USB 1.0 is really outdated. I would have recommended to just get a PCI tuner if you're going to add PCI USB 2.0 card, but if the computer is 10 years old the processor and memory might not even be enough to work with video or recording software. With an old computer you can turn it into a juke box or network it with the new one. Here's a cool project you can work on if you have lots of media. Take out all your PCI cards except for graphics card to your monitor then load it up with either USB 2.0 or eSata cards. You can turn your old computer into a mini server for all your home's computers. With only 3 PCI or PCIe cards, you can have 12 slots to hook up to hard drives. With drives at 2TB capacities you can have up 24TB of media on your home network and access it all with a laptop and even more if you have more slots. That's a lot more than most people need, but if you ask me it's much easier and convenient to have a DVD & Blu-Ray collection a mouseclick away than to have discs. |

Hey, thanks for the reply. I think I'll just get a new system in a while, I don't want to have a bunch of new hardware connected to this and have the fan roaring all the time. It's served its purpose, but time to update. That's a good idea about networking them for a video collection. Lots of fun things in the future! Also can't wait to cap |
