Post subject:  Copying clips to disk

Hello, I am having some serious pc issues and I have a library of clips that I have saved in my "briefcase", how can I easily get these burned unto a disk? I have Windows XP. I guess my other question is I have a second pc could I hook a cable between the 2 and move the entire folder to another pc? Appreciate any info.

Your best bet is to get an external drive.... they're pretty cheap nowadays: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory ... ard-Drives (you still get what you pay for, stick with Western Digital, Seagate type brands). It's a pretty foolproof & easy way of having backup.

Or you can network your pc's together using a router. But if you're having issues with one PC, it may not network properly. Decent routers cost from $50 and up. If your PC's are not set up with a wireless card/modem, then don't buy a wireless router. A wired router requires a cat5e cable.

You can connect PC's directly to one another with a patch cable and software (most PC makers offer kits that help you move your files and settings to a new PC, its the same concept).

I guess your other options are to use USB flash drives (depends on the amount of data) or burning to DVD - again, a DVD can only hold a certain amount of data and re-writeables don't always work in different machines.

I agree with slash on the external drive mainly because you can always use the drive for storage later or as back up of stuff you already have saved on your hard drive. I'll add that you can also use a USB bridge to transfer files. They aren't very expensive and they work fairly fast with USB 2.0.

As slash mentioned you could network the PC's. If you don't have a home network setup already, then it may not be worth it to just transfer some files.

If cost is an issue, then the least expensive way would be a USB flash drive or USB bridge. With the flash drive you may have to transfer a few times if it's a smaller drive.

Thanks for the response. I probably have about 100 clips saved so I guess the easiest was is the flash drive.
