The Fall Classic is here! It may have been a messy road to this point, but we have made it, and the result of this abbreviated 2020 season with an extended playoff is the two best teams facing each other: the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers captured baseball's best record for the 2nd straight season, though their campaign last season didn't end too well. This year, they won 43 of the 60 games played, and their postseason started with a Wild Card Series sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers--the team they defeated in the NLCS two years ago. The Dodgers swept the San Diego Padres in the NLDS, but they started the NLCS with a 3-1 deficit against the Atlanta Braves, only to win the next three. The Dodgers are in their third World Series in the last four seasons, but under manager Dave Roberts, they are still looking to finally win one, and win their first one overall since 1988.

In 1988, the Tampa Bay Rays didn't exist. The team debuted ten years later in 1998, and ten years after that, they won their first pennant in 2008. Playoff appearances hadn't really been plentiful since then, but this year, the Rays exploded and captured the American League's best record. After sweeping the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card Series, the Rays won a five game ALDS over the New York Yankees, and needed seven to win the pennant over the Houston Astros despite a 3-0 lead. This is the fourth World Series to feature a Florida franchise, the first two being 1997 and 2003--both featuring the Marlins, who won both times.

If Tampa Bay wins, it'll be the second straight season (and third in four years) that MLB will crown a first time champion. With the World Series being Tampa Bay vs Los Angeles, someone is about to win a second sports championship in only a few weeks. Tampa Bay won the Stanley Cup on September 28, while LA won the NBA Championship just nine days ago. TB has a good chance of winning the World Series, but I have to go with the Dodgers. It's about time that Roberts proves others wrong and gets it done.

Prediction: Dodgers in six

#1

Dodgers 8, Rays 3

Dodgers take Game One behind Clayton Kershaw's stellar outing and great offense led by Cody Bellinger's two-run HR.

Rays even series over Dodgers; Brandon Lowe homers twice in a bullpen game for LA.

History is not on the Dodgers' side when it comes to a 1-1 tie in the World Series. Out of the last eight times they were in that scenario, the Dodgers went on to win the World Series only once: 1959.

In World Series history, the team that is up 2-1 after three games, wins 68% of the time. Among the 32% who didn't: the 2003 Yankees and the 2016 Indians. In contrast, this is another stat that doesn't favor the Dodgers. This is the eighth time they have taken a 2-1 World Series lead, but of the previous seven times, they've only won twice.

A wild Game Four ends with a gaggle of miscues that resulted in two winning TB runs scored in the bottom of the ninth; Series is even.

I don't care if the game ended on a little league play, that was one hell of a finish! :Banana

This is the 47th time that the World Series is even at 2-2. Out of the previous 46 times, the Game 5 winner has gone on to win the Series 30 times (65.2%). However, one of the 16 who didn't: last year's Houston Astros.

The Dodgers have been in 2-2 World Series ties 15 times; of the previous 14 times, the Dodgers are 5-9.

Clayton Kershaw's six strikeout performance put him and the Dodgers one win away from a championship.

Dodgers capitalize on Blake Snell being pulled with two clutch runs followed by a Mookie Betts HR; Dodgers win their first World Series since 1988! Corey Seager named World Series MVP!

Fun facts about the Dodgers' World Series win:

This is the Dodgers' seventh World Championship and first since 1988.

This is the sixth Dodgers championship since the team moved to Los Angeles in 1958. The Brooklyn Dodgers' only championship came in 1955.

This is the only the 2nd World Series in the last 11 to go exactly six; the only other one was 2013.

This is the 14th World Series won by a California team: the Dodgers have six in LA, the A's have four in Oakland, the Giants have three in San Francisco, and the Angels have one.

This is California's first World Series win since 2014 (Giants) and the first for SoCal since 2002 (Angels).

This is the second straight decade to start with a National League World Series win; the Giants won the World Series in 2010. It is also the fourth decade out of the last five to start with an NL World Series win; the 1980s (Phillies) and 1990s (Reds) are the other two.

Not counting player-managers, Dave Roberts is the eighth person to have won a World Series as a player and as a manager; he was part of the 2004 Red Sox championship. Ironically, the last to join that list did it at the expense of Roberts: Alex Cora in 2018 (Cora was part of the 2007 Red Sox championship).

Kevin Cash will say that it was analytics, but anybody with half a baseball brain would've left Snell in. :censor
