The two teams who embarrassed Aroldis Chapman in each of the last two seasons will now face each other for the American League pennant. For the Tampa Bay Rays, they swept the Toronto Blue Jays and later won a thrilling five-game ALDS over the New York Yankees to reach the ALCS for only the second time in their 23-season history. The only other time was 2008, when the Rays went to the World Series. Speaking of the World Series, we have to mention their opponents, the Houston Astros. The Astros are moving, and moving far and deep. A lot of baseball fans (myself included) didn't think Houston would last; given the bad year they've had. Not the case. Houston swept the Minnesota Twins in the ALWCS, and easily defeated the Oakland A's in the ALDS. This is Houston's fourth straight trip to the ALCS, and this comes AFTER they were exposed as cheaters, meaning the unfair advantages they had are gone. Because of the pandemic, the fair home-field advantage is gone as well. We are in danger of being on the receiving end of the worst "I told you so" in sports history. One of the reasons why I was so angry over the Yankees being eliminated: we were baseball's only hope. Yankees would have beaten Houston. Tampa Bay is not beating Houston. Prediction: Astros in six #1 |

Didn't see the Rays winning three in a row to potentially sweep Astros. Marlins also were a surprise for making expanded playoffs. Good year for the three southeast corner teams. |
