You know, if I'm the Vancouver Canucks and their fans, I'd have to be angry at the wave of (potential) first time Stanley Cup Champions in the last number of years. Since 2012, we've seen three first time champions crowned, with two of them winning in each of the last two seasons. We've also seen team reach the Final with a chance to win the Cup for the first time. The Vancouver Canucks have been in the NHL since 1970 and they've never won the Cup. While that is not the longest current Cup drought in the NHL (that belongs to the recently eliminated Maple Leafs with 53 years), it's tied for the longest for a team who has never won one. Which makes it fitting that their opponent is a team who hosted the Cup for the very first time: the St. Louis Blues. The Blues never had a Cup hangover entering the pause, though I do suspect that it's starting to hit them at the worst possible time. Their Round Robin was strange. Their loss to Colorado: defense, no offense. Their loss to Vegas: offense, no defense. They lost the shootout to Dallas, but I think the Blues were the better team in that game. If Dallas had lost and got #4, I'd pick Vancouver easily. However, I do see the Blues edging Vancouver in this, but if they want to get past Round 2, the play has to improve. Prediction: Blues in 7 #1 |
