Unsure if it was a part of the layoffs or she left on her own accord. Good luck to her in her chapter.

First, it was Dianna Russini leaving for a similar position at The Athletic (of which she made it official this past Monday), then earlier in the summer I believe Steve Levy was also let go since he is not on the announcer list for the play-by-play duties for the second wave of NFL games.

Instead, it will be veteran college football/tennis announcer Chris Fowler teaming up with NFL Live analysts Dan Orlovsky and Louis Riddick. Laura Rutledge will soon return from maternity leave and she will be again reporting from the sidelines in addition to hosting NFL Live.

Wendi said in a brief statement via her Instagram late last week:

“Exactly 17 years ago, I walked into ESPN wide-eyed and excited. This week, I walk out the same way. Grateful, but equally excited about the next chapter. To be continued…”

Before landing at The Worldwide Leader in 2006, she spent several years in the New England area. However, Nix got her start at WPDE in Florence, South Carolina and would later work with NESN in Boston, the former FSN New England, and WHDH in Boston before moving to Bristol. At ESPN, she headed coverage of NFL Live for several years until she was replaced by Laura Rutledge and also anchored and was a major contributor to College Football Live.

Similar to the many other ESPN personalities who were either laid off or quit on their own terms, here is hoping that Wendi lands on her feet--whether it is being in the media or going on to something else like Jenna Lee did after leaving Fox News and Fox Business in the 2010's.

Yeah, she “left” ESPN……..right after they told her they didn’t want her anymore.

Isn't that the truth, even with the SEC in 2021 and the Big 12 in the last few weeks and the ACC this morning (Friday) announcing that several schools are jumping ship to play sports 2 to 3 time zones away--all thanks to the ineptness of the Pac-12 (formerly Pac-10 and Pac-8 for those of an certain age.)

Money talks, folks. Clearly, Disney and ESPN are pivoting towards streaming and guess who gets to suffer in the end--us as subscribers in paying very expensive fees just to stream their content (how does $25 to $30 per month sound?)
