Those factors, along with many others that might not get much attention online are definite factors.
I was trying to at least get the ball rolling.

The only ways I can figure with popular anchors (both national and local) when they leave is: 1) They find something else 2) They get lured to another network, ala what happened with Katie Couric 3) Sadly get caught in some dirty sex scandal, ala what happened with Matt Lauer 4) Retire That is usually my reasoning, but thank you for bringing this rather complex topic to light. |

Also, there's 1) They enter the job in a small market and realize, they don't like the job, being a one-man band. 2) (Women only) They have a kid or two and want to either stay at home or find something with a better work-life balance 3) (Mostly Women) They get married and leave the biz 4) Leave the TV News but do their own thing/stay in media in someway like a podcast or something 5) Health |

The goal is for particularly younger reporters is to move to a station which is in the top 100 markets, so you see a high turnover of them at WINK for example, but if you end up at 6abc Philadelphia, there are people there who have been there decades. Already mentioned is that some people, especially moms or older people want to return to a smaller market to be closer to friends and relatives. |

I saw a post in my Facebook that the two main anchors at Fox2 Detroit are retiring. Same night - both have been together 25 years. https://news.yahoo.com/fox-2-detroit-anchors-huel-010713859.html These two had the big gig together for 25 years. But if you get the morning shift...and hate going to bed at 6pm to get up at 2am; if you're "A" meteorologist instead of the "Chief" one; if you're the special assignment reporter but never get to anchor a newscast and really desire it...I guess maybe it's like everything else in life. Are you satisfied with your current status? Or are you willing to change it? Do you need to? Mark Suppelsa of Chicago said he was thankful to retire and never have to put on that pancake makeup ever again. He turns 60 this year and has been retired 5 years already. I guess, in addition to all the reasons prior listed, if "life happens" you deal with it. Sometimes that means staying employed - sometimes it's a life issue. I don't think they move more often than most other people do. They are simply more visible. |

Most news people don’t retire. They GET retired. Usually when someone younger/hotter/cheaper comes along. |

My area of Lynchburg/Roanoke Virginia has had a rash of people leaving over the past few years. People have left to either be in communications for hospitals or the department of transportation. One meteorologist left to join his wife in real estate. Lindsey Ward left being a nighttime anchor to starting her own ministry of helping mothers. And the most curious of them all, Kristina Montuori, left being a morning weather lady to start a career as a traveling comedian. Just this past Sunday, Delaney Wearden of WSLS announced that it would be her last day. She said on social media that her heart just wasn't in it anymore, and that she was moving with her boyfriend to Colorado. Seems like if unless you've got a family with several kids and or grandkids, you're in and out of here within 5 years. |

Half in my area quit the news channels and find new work or they get fired or move on, basically due to getting fired, finding better work or 100 different reasons. So women come and go. |
