Plans announced for WarnerMedia to sell their longtime downtown Atlanta facility CNN Center, but lease it back for some continued use
for at least a few years more -- as they gradually relocate all operations to their expanded Techwood Campus property across town... ironically
returning to where Ted Turner started the network in 1980.

The building was first constructed by TV producers Sid & Marty Krofft, and opened in May 1976 as "The World Of Sid & Marty Krofft" - an indoor theme park based mostly
on their kids show characters like H.R. Pufnstuf, and Sigmund & The Sea Monsters. There was also a huge ice rink, that was later filled in by CNN to become it's food court.
While it was popular for a while, attendance fell off so much that the park was forced to shut down near the end of the year.
And outside of some shops and food vendors, the place sat mostly empty until Ted Turner bought it in 1986. CNN began broadcasting from it's new center in July 1987.

I thought CNN was closing up things in Atlanta and moving everything in NYC?

They apparently are sticking with the current arrangement that's been in place for a few years now --
The big league "star" anchors who are all based in NY (recently shifted to their new Hudson Yards complex) will continue to be based in NY.

But those other operations, especially involving HLN, Adult Swim, TruTV, TBS, Cartoon Network, etc. will keep on being based in Atlanta for quite
some time to come.
New Day Weekend is broadcast from the former "Headline News" studio in Atlanta, and of course, Robin Meade's longtime "Morning Express" orginates
out of CNN Center too. Looks like Robin just might have the chance to retire while still in Atlanta, after all. ;)

I think a lot of things have prompted CNN to realize it's better to keep operations spread out some - NY, ATL, and DC - because there's always
the chance that in some emergency they may not have them all available at once.
I did find out one thing that kind of surprised me:
WarnerMedia apparently sold off Hudson Yards last year -- barely after moving into it. So they have a leaseback arrangement there until 2034, similar to
the upcoming 5-year deal they'll have with CNN Center in ATL after it's been sold:

Robin must have exercised her veto option, :jetserl

Maybe that's why Robin took an early holiday vacation, to celebrate that she doesn't have to move up the coast! And hopefully her commercial break bathroom runs won't be as bad in the new/old place.

FWIW, I had heard about the failed Krofft park, but I didn't know until recently that the building eventually became the CNN Center. Robin and Jen need to make a nod to this one Halloween by dressing up as Electra Woman and Dyna Girl.
