1 p.m. Update:

16 year veteran NBA Insider Chad Ford was the latest to get "the call" on Thursday, but it was not known to Deadspin readers until Saturday. His final day covering the annual NBA Draft will be on June 30.

Who'll hire/rehire new women at ESPN? Danielle Trotta? Katie Nolan? Jill Arrington? Charissa Thompson? Jaime Maggio? Ashley Brewer from ABC7?

Rumor was Nolan and CT were considered at one point (unsure if it's in ESPN's current plans). Especially since Cari is the only female anchor in LA probably would make sense to rehire CT or hire Jaime or Ashley. Would they rehire Jill? Also didn't Danielle is hire recent for a Sirius station?

I agree with you on that. Jaime or Jill could be great fill-ins for Cari if needed. As for women who are expected to be safe, who'll fill Jaymee's spot for SportsCenter AM and when are the versatile Lindsay Czarniak and Cassidy Hubbarth rejoin SportsCenter? They could take someone's spot in morning and evening respectively.

You can't exclude her from the firing list just because she's pregnant. It would be one thing if she were the only person being fired, but she's simply 1 of 100 who were fired. It may seem cruel at first, but what would they do? Fire her right after she gives birth? Have her go on air for a week, then fire her?

I'm no fan of ESPN by any means and this whole thing reeks, but there's nothing particularly untoward about including Jade in the firing list.

Firing someone else (I know I know crappy thing to said). Seriously how does that :censor Sage Steele keep her job after attacking (verbally online) airport protesters? It wasn't good timing for most of the talent really; NFL people got fired before or after day one of the draft, MLB just started, and NBA/NHL are on their playoffs. Also SC AM is still on and they fired Jaymee. It sucks period for all those fired, most of them have families not just Jade. I'm surprised Lindsay is still there, I thought she would have wanted to move closer to the NYC since her husband (Craig Melvin) is a MSNBC anchor. I'm sure he could have hooked her up with a job at NBC sports.

not sure if this was brought up or not. with other sport channels willing to spend money to get good sport show. could this be reason why they are losing viewership. look at what NBC sports and fox sports and CBS sports had done to get some top sports air on networks. did that take viewership away or was poor sport news and sport talking show hit nail in coffer

With escalating rights fees and the simple fact that there are so many thousands of "cord cutters", people have been turning away in droves.

When a channel goes away from their original mission, people find other options. The only reason ESPN is still valid going forward is their live sports, and occasionally their interesting 30 For 30 documentaries.

Clearly, the way fans consume their sports news has changed. The question is--how and who can meet that demand while most (not all) people use their smartphones instead of desktops and laptops on a daily basis?

That's a good question. Whenever FS1 or NBCSN or CBS Sports or NFL Network picked up any former ESPN anchor or reporter or analyst, they do everything. All they need is sports highlights not politics and so-called hot takes. Hot takes are like mad dogs.

Erin Coscarelli hasnt been on Good Morning Football for almost a year . When they revamped that show Erin started working out of LA for NFL Networks Fantasy Football show. She still reads the teleprompter pretty good

I was wondering about her. Isn't Kay Adams the host? What would Erin be doing?

Katie Nolan got into a twitter war with Sean Hannity. Looks like she was hoping they'd fire her so she can get out of her contract.

Brief update from Sunday, from both Awful Announcing and the Sports Media Watch site:
The latest to be shown the door (no big surprise here) is longtime baseball and college basketball announcer Dave O'Brien--the current radio voice of the Boston Red Sox.

Kay Adams is the host of GMFB which is based in New York.

Erin Coscarelli is on Fantasy Football Now which is only on during the season and it is based n Los Angeles.. Every now and then you may see her give an update sometime but rarely ever.. You should see her more when football season starts but dont blink

I am a Red Sox fan and am not surprised ESPN let Dave O go.. Now if NESN would follow suit... Repeats himself too much and talks about other things as the game is going on.

Maybe because NFL Network went from Jaime Maggio to Molly to Erin and will they keep Erin for another season or have Cynthia Frelund there which makes sense her hosting a fantasy football show.
