Other than the few eye candies, the channel is unwatchable. http://www.deadline.com/2012/05/cnn-has-its-lowest-rated-month-in-more-than-a-decade-in-april/ |

Their presentation is unremarkable (why hire attractive women and show them from the neck up?) What should they expect? Charity? Give me a few months of hiring, firing, and reorganizing the sets and you won't care what they're saying. Their ratings will be through the roof. Trust Doctor Melvin. |

When Kiran Chetry was there showing leg every morning, their ratings weren't that great either. CNN's problems go beyond a desk |

The sets need to change with no desks better camera angles and the woman have to stop being prudes and show off there assets. ( Legs and Cleavage). the old adage Sex sells and a occasional upskirt or downblouse wouldn't hurt their ratings either look what its done for Gretchen Carlson |

jjis wrote: When Kiran Chetry was there showing leg every morning, their ratings weren't that great either. CNN's problems go beyond a desk Agreed. As another example, Campbell Brown was very easy on the eyes and her show failed. To me, CNN's problem is that they are competing against two slanted opinion networks in an age where people get their hard news from the internet. 20 years ago CNN was the channel to watch because their competition were nightly newscasts that were condensed into a 30 minute summary and newspapers that carried "old" news compared to CNN which was real-time. These days people can go to CNN's webpage and absorb all of the headlines and get an idea of what's going on. Their business model has been largely made irrelevant by the internet. And they are in a tough spot because Fox and MSNBC has staked out the right and the left. CNN needs a fundamental overhaul if they are going to compete in the ratings.....if they don't, then they can continue to rest on their laurels but suffer in 3rd place. |

One name: JON. KLEIN. Nuff said. Doc Melvin hit it on the head: the content is the key issue why CNN has bottomed out. And while I would champion the good doctor's efforts for the ladies, most of the men on CNN are complete pickleheads who are so out of touch with their audience, it's not funny. Looking at you, Piers Morgan...Anderson Cooper...Don Lemon...John King...Fareed Zakaria. And then there's HLN, the sister network, which is basically suffering for their big sister's sins. Joy Behar? Dr. Drew the Exploitation Master? Rly? Srsly? CNN's reputation is long gone, and Jon Klein's mishandling of the network has dug them a hole they'll never climb out of. But on a lighter note...why not fire one of more of the above knuckleheads and give ED Hill a shot at a two-hour show? She's got as much experience (and more credibility) than most of them. When you're down, there's only one way to go... |

If Kiran Chetry with her exquisite beauty and world class legs couldn't save CNN then no amount of "sex sells" will save them. As for Gretchen F&F was already a hit before she took the permanent weekday spot. I watched the "original" CNN everyday when it was hard news with little bias and I miss those days. But CNN was and still is fighting a losing battle in the days of F&F and the Today Show, goofy shows that are dominated by fluff pieces and hosts that offer their uninformed fringe positions as it they were facts. I knew the days of the respected CNN were doomed when they hired Nancy Grace. Now CNN and the rest of them are compromising their principles in the name of ratings they get from an audience with shorter and shorter attention spans and more of an appetite for the sensational. I commend CBS for trying to do more of a hard news morning program, but in the end they will never catch up with Today or GMA and CBS will have to face the same choice CNN is struggling with now: principles or ratings. |

Fareed Zakaria's show GPS is one of the most intelligent and well informed shows on CNN, instead of bashing him, try watching the show, its the audience thats out of touch. |

The CNN execs are still living in denial. "CNN says that isn’t much of a problem: The network’s worst ratings are in prime time, and “Keep in mind, the advertising revenue that we bring in for the prime-time revenues for CNN U.S. is less than 10% of the overall revenue,” Jim Walton, the president of CNN Worldwide, told Keach Hagey. CNN makes about half of its money through subscriber fees paid to it from cable operators." http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/mediawire/172590/cnn-ratings-drop-not-bad-yet-for-its-bottom-line/ |

I have to agree with you there. I like his show. Certainly beats a lot of what passes for news and analysis on the Big Three of Cable News. Here is another article which suggests a solution for CNN: http://www.commondreams.org/view/2012/05/02-8 |

The problem is there's not enough real news to last an hour so she has to rely on the stupid skits. Well, if that's the case, then there's not much more CNN could try. They've tried practically everything from talk format to hard news, so maybe the best thing would be to just double down on Erin (ok, your own joke here) and let her continue to grow into it. It hasn't been that long since she got there, anyway. At one point, the 11pm repeat of OutFront was actually pulling better ratings than the live 7pm hour. Is that still the case, or has that flattened also? . |

I would say get rid of the 2nd showing of Anderson for starters. These repeats seem too close to each other anyway. 8 and 10. 7 and 11. |

Red Eye is probably the only one in that list I actually watch from time to time rather than fast forward through any more. As much as I like Erin, I just can't muster enough interest to watch it regularly. Love the glass desk though if we have to have a desk. I like Fareed but would not watch him every weekday nor could I take Howard Kurtz in more than 1 program a week but I like the programs enough to watch weekly. CNN is f*cked it would seem. The recommendations from Cenk are pretty sound. I would like it better if there was less of the he said-she said stuff and talkingpoint crap. |

I saw the Avengers today. I remember seeing a TV with CNN on it and remember thinking "whatever happened to that station" I forgot it existed for a second or two...no joke. Paula, Heidi, Cambell, and now Erin are all casualties. Truth be told, unless there's a chance of seeing some hot lady showing off her goods, I won't even bother tuning in. I get all me news on the internet like most people under the age of 60. I have no doubt that TV news channels day's are limited altogether and like newspapers will go by the way side. I don't even watch my local news anymore...just go to there web pages. A sign of the times folks. |

"Fareed Zakaria's show GPS is one of the most intelligent and well informed shows on CNN, instead of bashing him, try watching the show, its the audience that's out of touch." The audience is what justifies his presence. His views, IMHO, alienate most of his target audience; same with Morgan and the others that I listed. This is a site mostly devoted to women, so I will resist the temptation to get into an argument about Zakaria, or comment on Cenk's TV career path ; CNN has its fair share of good looking women (Ashley and Zoraida, Brooke Baldwin... ), and from what I have seen on HLN outside of Robin Meade (love love love) and Nancy Grace, most of HLN's reporters are professional at doing hard news. CNN has deeper and more fundamental problems than we could really discuss here (without arguments and board warnings), problems that won't simply be solved by leg chairs and couches (w/o those damned tables!) for the female hosts. That being said...I kinda dig Ashleigh's "naughty schoolteacher" look, and I wish Brooke did more leg chair segments w/Elizabeth Cohen. Jennifer, quit being shy. Go back to doing couch segments with Robin. |
