Nicole has announced she's leaving WINK News on Thursday. She was the first anchor I discovered on WINK.

Without knowing where she will go next, at least you have a solid 4 year body of work of Nicole on WINK. So thank you for that.

Not a surprise, she is stunning and can probably go national if she wants

Strange, this seems like she is staying in the area, but doesn’t mention another job.
Is she getting out of the business?

If she's staying in the Fort Myers/Naples market, I can see her going to WBBH/WZVN.

MOrab has posted that Nicole is off to WFXT Boston 25, a Fox affiliate.

Unlike her former place of employment, Boston 25 News as they are called does not have a huge YouTube presence in terms of clips. It appears they only update once or twice a week at most.

Good luck in trying to find out how to cap her, unless there is such a site like TitanTV or perhaps Peacock which carries most NBC affiliates' newscasts.

She close to National, maybe she'll get there unlike another Nicole (Nicole Lauren) who went to Miami but left the biz last year.

I have access to Boston 25's Fox feed, so not an issue. I also capped WINK using the normal WINK-TV CBS feed from Fort Myers rather than using YouTube to ensure I got the best quality caps.

She hasn't started on WFXT yet.

I've posted some caps and a video of Nicole from today on Boston 25 News. She isn't in the studio yet, but recorded a welcome message to viewers.

Nicole starts on mornings full time from tomorrow morning. Today was a short stint on the 10am reporting on two stories in studio.

The Boston Globe has a story on their website about her starting at channel 25:

"Nicole Gabe, a broadcast journalist who previously worked in Fort Myers, Fla., joined the morning news team at WFXT-TV (Channel 25) as an anchor this week.

Gabe spent five years at the Fort Myers-based WINK News, where she started as a reporter and rose to become an anchor. She is joining Boston 25 after a series of departures from the station earlier this year, including morning anchor Elizabeth Hopkins, evening anchor Vanessa Welch, and news director Sarah Burgess.

“I am so excited to be here. I have already been exploring the different areas in each of the communities,” Gabe said when Boston 25 announced she would joining the team on-air.

Gabe graduated from Virginia Tech in 2019, where she studied journalism and political science. She then joined WINK News, where she reported on breaking news including the disappearance and killing of Gabby Petito and the collapse of the Surfside, Fla., condominium that killed 98 people, according to a news release. She also covered the aftermath of Hurricane Ian in 2022.

“Boston 25 is proud to have Nicole join an already strong team of anchors, reporters, news directors, and production teams,” said Todd Brown, Boston 25 vice president and general manager, in a statement. “Her focus on telling the stories viewers need to see and her commitment to her community make her a great fit for our team.”

In addition to introducing the new morning anchor, Boston 25 announced earlier this week that it was expanding its news programming every day. The station will now air news from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in addition to its previous hours. That means Boston 25 will air programming for a total of 13 hours per day.

Boston 25 did not give a reason why it expanded its hours. But running more news can be a way to save costs, as it is typically cheaper to run more original programming than paying to syndicate other content."

Seems odd to me that running a news operation is cheaper than buying the rights to old sitcoms, dramas, or another celebrity talk show. But I only watch and read the news, don't know anything about how those organizations work.

If you watch the AppleTV+ series The Morning Show, you should get a very good idea on what takes place behind the scenes.

In other words, it is hectic and very cutthroat. Each station and their network affiliation are out to get the hot take, the heartbeat of the story and saying "We bring it to you first."

But since the late 1980's, there was a famed news executive named Joel Cheatwood. First started the sleazy newscasts in Miami before that ugly period in May 1997 when the late Jerry Springer was on WMAQ to offer two commentaries. Both anchors resigned as a result. He bounced around from KYW in Philadelphia to WCBS in New York within three years.

In the last few years, he has teamed up for an online venture with Dr. Phil. His Wikipedia page has all of the other details if you want to learn more.

The tagline "If it bleeds, it leads" has shown us one thing--shocking stories mostly, if not always lead every local newscast, like it or not.
And to me, as a Communication Arts graduate back in the 1990's--it sickens me that the honesty in news went out the same way as Kodak cameras and the Tandy computer--once great products, no longer around.
