Yet, this all went to a different level when he was off on Friday. Here is what he said to his bosses on a conference call:

Sara Sidner with Poppy today
Sara followed Kaitlan’s report from Poland by making a point to tell her what a good job she’s doing

This article mentions most of the same points, but I found the last chunk to be fascinating:

"Toward the end of his comments on the call this morning, Lemon said he would “continue to be who I am, to talk about issues that I think affect us — women, people of color, members of the LGBT community, the underserved community — that is part of my mission.” But, he said “when I make a mistake, I own it. And I own this one as well.”

CNN CEO CHRIS LICHT opened the call saying that he was “disappointed” in the remarks, calling them “upsetting, unacceptable and unfair.” “I want to say I’ve heard from a lot of people in the organization both directly and indirectly about how those comments have affected you, and I want you to hear directly from me that I hear you,” Licht said. After Lemon’s apology, Licht said: “I look forward to the continued conversation on this with you and the staff.”

But Lemon’s mea culpa on the call didn’t satisfy everyone who heard it.

People who were on the call said that while Lemon apologized, he seemed at times to be justifying his original comment and taking credit for apologizing.

One person described Lemon’s apology as “tone deaf” and said some staff remain “furious” over the episode and want management to issue a statement responding to the situation."

Page Six now has a source claiming Lemon has "zero defenders" left at CNN.
I would disagree, he has at least one----the boss who's keeping him employed (for now)

Well whoever didn’t already hate Don Lemon probably does after reading that article, even if only half of it is true.

The part I still don’t get:
THE GUY IS ALWAYS IN LAST PLACE NO MATTER WHAT SHOW HE’S ON.

Why would CNN or any network continue to put up with this loser?

If this was during the time that Lauer, Rose, O'Reilly, among others got the boot, Don Lemon would be fired. I don't know how this guy is keeping his job. Which is also the same thing I can say about a number of people on Fox News.

And Kaitlan happened to turn 31 on Friday.
What a (fill in the blank) birthday present

Sure hope it turns out good, I guess.

Collins may be a good reporter, but I’ve seen nothing from her on the anchor desk that makes her special or interesting.
She seems pretty robotic and wooden, certainly no warmth or dynamism to her at least not yet.

I imagine working next to Lemon has something to do with that
Tough for her to feel comfortable

Maybe CNN should look at anchors in the top 20-30 markets. There's Caroline Collins though she just started in Houston. There's Caitlin Lockerbie and she's from Long Island though I think she might be right-leaning and would never accept a job from CNN. If they want to go there, there's Amy Robach. I know I know plus another strike since TJ Holmes used to be on CNN. They did hire a disgraceful NY Governor to be a host.

I see Caitlin in Tampa and have no idea what her politics are
I don’t think she would turn down CNN either
Kaitlin Collins came to CNN from The Daily Caller
She worked there when Tucker Carlson owned it

I find it hard to believe any local anchor would turn down CNN

So far it’s Poppy and Erica Hill as the new morning team
I can live with that :D
Today it was Poppy and Rahel Solomon
That’s good too :)

NY Post:
“Other top anchors including Jake Tapper, Erin Burnett and Anderson Cooper have voiced their concerns about Licht’s leadership, with some complaining to Leavy, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.”

Those 3 have had dreadful ratings from day 1 and continue to struggle, what on earth do they think they have a right to complain about?

They are lucky to have any job, anywhere, under any boss.

Licht was fired today.

Cable and network news are dying. The task of executives is to manage that decline. Licht's naive idea of moving CNN to the middle was flawed for two reasons- 1) the talent was bound to revolt, and 2) right-leaning folks and moderates will never give CNN a chance. Fox News made a similar mistake after the 2020 election. They tried appealing to moderates but only succeeded in driving away their fanbase and irritating their talent.

There are two audiences who still watch corporate media: boomer-conservatives and boomer-liberals. Fox gets the boomercons and the others compete for the left-leaning grannies. Younger people get their news from the internet and I don't see them ever giving television news a chance. The sole objective for these outlets, as they descend into irrelevancy, is to not drive away their ONLY potential audience. Licht deserved to get cut
