Edit: The video doesn't talk about the fate of the captured German crew. IIRC they were moved to a prison in the US with no other prisoners and not permitted any contact with anyone outside the prison including sending letters home which was a violation of the Geneva Convention but it was critical that Germany believed that the sub sunk and all hands were lost.
