So I notice some people seem to use some kind of desktop recording software to record/cap the web stream version of the various shopping channels, I was doing this for QVC2 myself. However, those types of programs can result in worse quality and higher CPU usage. Recently I discovered the media player I've been using for ages can not only view live streams, but record the actual data stream without any recompression! The quality is exactly what you get from the web player and it takes very little resources. It's also very easy to use.
The program is called
PotPlayer. There's really not much to set up, it's very plug and play. The trick is to find the url for the datastream. Once you've found it press "Ctrl+U" to open the "Open URL" dialog. Paste the link and press OK. Once the video is playing, press "Ctrl+A" to open the "Record Stream" dialog. You can set where to store the video, set a filename prefix (QVC, HSN, EVINE, etc.), and if you want to split the file by size or minutes. Once you've set those, click OK and the video will start recording as an .mkv file. Just click the stop button to stop recording.
