slowpoke, I also wanted to ask about viewing the shows you have recorded on the hard drive in the media center....can you view playback in 2X, 10X, 30X, or 70-100X speed?? (like I can on my panassonic HD recorder)....Thanks

THANKS for those screenshots!....I see that in the best recording mode you are using about 3.2 or so GB per hour. I see you had 465 GB left over!....do you have one 500GB drive or 2 250's??

if you want to burn some shows to DVD does it do them at 3.2 GB per hour or can you choose the bitrate??

good info guys.....slowpoke & malone, some questions: 1) how easy is it to edit shows you record? taking out commercials and burning to a dvd? 2) can you combine parts of shows into one show....like say getting 2 minutes from one and 5 minutes each from 4 shows and combining them into one show? ...

I just looked at the dell site and the ones Id be interested in are $800-$1600....the $800 one doesnt have a warentee though....the higher ones have 1-2 year in home warentees.. what I like about the PC's is you can add hard drives to them & they can be hooked up to broadband. the hard drives Iv...

THANKS for the info guys....it will be 3-6 months before I get a PC so Ill have time to look and study, Im going to check out the dell site and see what price I can get...but on QVC the dell's are very high priced compared to HP and even sony...

THANKS for the info guys....and I want more guys giving their opinions as well.. I was looking at a HP media center machine today ($900)...it has a 250GB hard drive ...BUT the recording doesnt allow you to choose bitrates & resolution!....its just got 4 preset "speeds" like stand alone recorders...

THANKS for the input.....Ive seen duel layer discs a while back and they were an insane $10 each at walmart!!!....I get a DVD RAM disc for $3.50 and buy DVD -R discs on sale for 35 cents each.....NO way am I buying the duel layer discs....I dont think the recorder can record them anyway. sherlock, I should have updated this earlier....I have bought Maxell -R discs in the 25 and 50 count spindals and they work perfectly, got them for 35 cents a disc. about 50% of Fuji discs worked and ZERO memorex discs worked. Buy Maxell for your panasonic...(UNLESS its the RAM diss, on those I stic...
