Weather Channel Shaking Up ‘Wake Up With Al’

Starting in mid-April, The Weather Channel’s “Wake Up with Al” will have a decidedly different vibe, as the show originates from New York, rather than Weather’s Atlanta headquarters.

Co-host Al Roker usually hosts the show from New York, with his colleague Stephanie Abrams joining him via video from Atlanta. For the next few months however Abrams will be joining Roker in New York. A Weather Channel tipster tells us that the move is a “tryout,” designed to see how the chemistry looks when Roker and Abrams are in the same room rather than in different states. If the results are positive, the show may originate from New York permanently.

To go along with her temporary move, Abrams will also be hosting “Your Weather Today” from New York.

Sure hope the quality caps of Stephanie can continue.

However, one most note in recent appearances--those chances get a bit slimmer the more the camera zooms in on the graphics.

I'm kind of surprised Abrams hasn't been promoted to NBC on a full time basis. Or maybe she'll take over for Roker once he retires.

Which effectively means the end of Maria filling for Al on the Today Show....Yup, it never gets better, only worse...

There is no more weather channel. There hasn't been one for many months now.
All that is left is a channel about the weather.

The sad thing is, I believe that. And if Heather is taking over Maria's weekend slot, wtf do they plan on doing with her? I really don't want to know, do I?

Given SA's appearances on the Today show, this move makes sense. And really, having two hosts in two locations really is odd. I'm sure this is just the first step in phasing TWC's people into NBC/MSNBC news &/or NBC news-programs. I would be astonished if Atlanta continues to be the center of operations within 5-10 years and I would be surprised if it wasn't called NBC Weather or NBC's The Weather Channel in a few years. From a business standpoint, it truly does make sense for NBC to do that.

Oh boy, I admit I do like Stephanie (she sent me an autograph pic) and I can't blame her for be pissed especially since she the star of TWC (well not named Cantore) and Maria got the call and not her however she lucky she got away with that. Not many people with throwing hissy fits to their bosses. Though she did work with Maria Tuesday and didn't see any hosilte attitudes toward each other.

Just because there weren't any hostilities on the air don't mean there weren't any or at minimum hard feelings.

There's allot of people on T.V. and in movies who can't stand eachother(Bill Murray and Harold Ramis couldn't stand eachother when they made Groundhog Day) but most don't go all Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre and have a public melt down.

I can't blame her for being pissed either. In fact, I don't get all the Stephanie hate that's popped up on here recently. For almost ten years, she was capped on a regular basis then it all stopped. The woman is straight-up amazing and SEXY. I know a lot of dudes dig Jen C on here but I don't get why she's gotten more exposure on here recently than Steph. Here's an honest question without any sarcasm. What happened to make a lot of folks dislike Steph? There have been PLENTY of requests for Steph on here but to no avail. An earlier comment on this thread about Steph not being capped here got me thinking about all this. I ask whoever has the answers to PLEASE give clarification.

Thank you for being candid, Gambit, and I can see what you mean. HOWEVER, she was nowhere near as loud when she first joined TWC. That was before NBC bought the operation. I'm positive that the NBC tools mandated all the behavior you mentioned. That, and all the Roker/Cantore crap. Trust me, she didn't cheer on Cantore in the pre-NBC days. Still......I can forego all that behavior with the mute button. Thanks again, Gambit! Y'know....maybe I'll start capping! Can anyone send me a how-to?

I just saw this.

I don't mind the way she looks (although I don't think her face is pretty whatsoever..I find her face,well, unattractive, to be honest). But, the biggest problem I have, as previously mentioned, is her personality. I disagree with the notion it is an NBC thing. I've detested her attempts and goofiness and humor for a long time now..wellll before she was on mornings. I don't just find her irritating, I find her downright obnoxious. Also, very apparent she got a boob job of which I'm not a fan of.

Those are just my honest thoughts. I find no ill will towards those that adore her. To each his own, for sure!
