Can't help with your problems, but if you smash your laptop with a sledgehamer you could probably get big bucks for it on ebay. :jetserl

Man, I wish I could help you out...I know what you're talking about ...those pop-up warnings (if you hit them) only exacerbate the problem.

Those guys suck!!!

OK, that sucks. What your kid probably clicked on was one of those pop up ads that look like its a computer error message but it just reels you into downloading a trojan. That really sucks man, I had a miserable virus on my old pc last summer.

Have you tried a system restore?

you should search for a remedy at my favorite help site....

http://castlecops.com

you can also do an open port scan and so on to make sure you're not being constantly infected through open ports...I had that too.

I also use...HiJackThis, it catches registry key changes so you know what is being screwed around. This is good for protection IE from being hijacked... http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Oh get a pop up blocker too! try the google toolbar for starters.

good luck.

now the shotgun thins is funny. that made me smile considering the situation. the only way to get me to smile any bigger would be a wet t-shirt contest featuring Bobbi-Ray, Lisa R, Collen Lopez, and lynn murphy....come to think of it throw in lisa mason too....not all that big but she probably would look good in a wet t :D :D

Get and run Adaware. Adaware goes deep into the registry keys and will find the trojan stuff. Download Service Pak 2 from microsoft. It has added features such as pop up blocker and firewall. Judging by your post, it doesn't soundlike you have a firewall running.

Run all of the virus and ad programs while you are disconnected from the web. That way the trojans won't interfere with your clean up. If that doesn't work, run System Restore and select a point before all of this crap happened.

Final solution would be (I have done this once last summer) is to completely reload the windows operating system.

Microsoft's new Anti-Spyware program is pretty good too. It is still official in Beta stage, but I haven't had any trouble with it and caught a few things with it.
