I need some help. I had a lot of great pics in My Pictures on Windows XP system and they are gone. I recently thought I would try and install some games. One peticular game I have had trouble with. I have installed it and un-installed it and re-installed and un-installed it again. I have used the system restore date to help get all the other componets of the game off. I went to add some great pics from this site and all my folders are gone. Talk about being ticked. Is there any way I can retrieve these folders in my PC or are they gone forever? I would appreciate any ideas or tips. Thank You, by the way this is a great site. Great caps.

Go to Start->Control Panel
Click on User Accounts
Make sure your account is a 'Computer Administrator' not a 'Limited' Account

Go to Start->Search
Click on 'All Files and Folders'
where it says 'All or part of the file name:' type "*.jpg, *.jpe" (without the quotes)
Make sure the 'Look in:' field points to the C: drive
Click the Search button
If your jpeg pics are still on your hard drive they will show up.

Thanks CMM for your help. I did a search like you said and some listings under *jpeg appeared but it wasn't what I was looking for. Well, easy come, easy go. Thanks again.

I found the folder titles of my old albums under the search for "albums". When I go to open them it takes me to a new album I created the other day. Is there any way to retrieve the old pics from this point or do I need to do something else?? Would appreciate any help.

Yes. I think I will delete them and try to continue to find a way to open the old ones. I did have a computer error when I shut down my PC after finding these titles of old albums and trying to open them. When I went into my user accounts there was another user name listed and it had a password to get in so I deleted the user altogether. Can someone set up a user account on your PC thru the internet?

Looks like someone messed with your accounts.
When you delete an account, everything in the user's "My Documents" folder gets deleted. That includes My Pictures, My Videos, etc. maybe your pics were in that account.

Where exactly are the mysterious albums you found, path (C:\Documents and Settings\....etc.)

Have you done an error checking of your disk?

Open Windows Explorer (Start->My Computer)
point to the C: drive
right-click mouse
click on Properties
click on the Tools tab
click Check Now...
click Start

CMM, the folder is C:\ Documents and settings
When I go to open the folders it opens a new folder that I created since this issue that has a different title. There are other icons under the same search but Windows is unable to open.

I did the disk repair like you said, It didn't help with opening the folders. If the contents of folders are deleted, would the folder itself still exist? Maybe I'm trying to open an empty folder & that is why it keeps taking me to the new folder.
I'm starting to think they are gone & even if they are still in my box I just don't have enough tech knowledge to get them back.
