these work excellently:
Panasonic RAM & DVD-R
Maxell DVD-R 4X and 8X discs
these work ONLY in SP normal recording speeds:
Fuji DVD-R 4X and 8X discs
these do NOT work at all:
Memorex DVD-R discs
Lukily I got some maxell discs at 40 cents each today at office depot!

I have had good luck on all of those in my Panasonic Recrder. The only problems that I had was my fault, even with Panasonic's DVD - R. It's a learn as you go thing.
I have not lost a disc for over a year now. (any brand I use)
