You never know when downloading programs or browser extensions if you will get a virus or malware. Here is a safe and easy way. After clicking the video you want just as the letters "vd" to the address like this. Make sure the address looks like this. www.vdyoutube.com/whatevervideo Once you hit enter you will see the video with some download options underneath. Generally the best quality will be the top link. |

Most of the time though, since YouTube made some changes a year or two ago, the best quality that can be grabbed is 720p. 1080p seems to be locked off from most download programs. (that I've tried) . |

I've been using aTube Catcher for at least a couple of years. It can capture in 1080p and can do stream capture (grabbing the video while it's playing) for sites it can't just grab the video from directly. http://ww2.atube.me/ |

As an another option for those interested IDM is probably the best download manager there is. If any video is in 1080p it will download it and not just YT vids. I use KeepVid, myself. Like most other sites, 720 seems to be the max it can download without additional futzing. It's not a bad idea to list all these sites and software, that way you always have a backup plan if your favorite method fails. |

Yep, 720p is the highest you can download with the majority of programs available. I use 4K Video Downloader, and yes, as the name implies, it will download YT videos up to 4K (if available, obviously). Been using it for at least a couple years (right after YT's 1080p download policy change) plus it gets updated regularly. |

For the the longest time I used Ummy Video Downloader which was so simple and allowed me to download an unlimited number YouTube videos in HD very quickly, but it looks like it is now no longer free and you need to buy it.  So my question is what other free options can I use to download YouTube videos at their highest quality without any size limitations? Ummy used to be great because you could download at 1080 no matter how long the video was!  Any advice on finding another free option that allows me to do the same would be appreciated. Thanks all.
