I already have the Internet Download Manager, which cost $20 bucks, as well as the free Freemake Downloader. But I was wanting to capture streaming videos online and that pesky AHDS format with the suffix of .f4f as the code. Now I know I might still have issues with the .f4f files, but the software I found might work better with them. IDM is a wonderful program that worked better with some players and can download in mp4 for better quality where it is available. But it is not a stream recorder, but rather a video downloader, and occasionally it runs into issues because of the .f4f format. But it works better that the Real player video downloader and even Orbit.
So anyways, I wanted to find a streaming recorder. i found two pay programs that might work well.....Applian's Replay Media Catcher with Apowersoft's Streaming Video Recorder. As far as stream recorders go a few free online programs got into issues with copyright holders so they were stopped being made. So for free you must get a screen recorder that would record the screen and audio sound. in that case the two best I found are Nchsoftware's Debut and Sourceforge's CamStudio.
So one has to understand that there are video downloaders that can capture flash and mp4 and maybe other formats from videos and even more specific there are some tailored to youtube and youtube like video sharing sites. But there are also stream recording software that might also come with a way to download video as well, but can record streams and streaming media online. Then there is screen recorders which are not made to record streaming media, but anything that runs on the computer screen. They will lose some quality of the video being recorded but there are free screen recording programs unlike the stream recording software.
So I found thru c/net's download.com that the two best streaming programs are .Applian's Replay Media Catcher with Apowersoft's Streaming Video Recorder. They weren't listed in the same categories so finding them might be a trick. But both can record streaming media online.
