One of the most memorable streaks in sports history (especially in my lifetime) was the Atlanta Braves' 14 straight division championships, finishing first from 1991 until 2005. Since then, the Braves' postseasons have been scarce, but once upon a time, they were one of the constants throughout the 1990s. Here's an at-a-glance look at the Braves' streak.

1991: The Braves' "worst-to-first" season; they were in the National League West at the time. After finishing in last place in the 1990 season, the Braves improved by 29 games with a 94-68 season, winning the division by one game over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in a seven-game National League Championship Series, but lost the World Series to the Minnesota Twins (also in seven). This was the Braves' first pennant in the streak.

1992: Went 98-64 and won the NL West by eight games over the Cincinnati Reds. Defeated the Pirates for the second straight year in the NLCS (seven games), but lost the World Series to the Toronto Blue Jays (six games). This was the Braves' second pennant in the streak.

1993: Won a then-team record 104 games, but only won the NL West by one game over the San Francisco Giants. Lost the NLCS in six games to the Philadelphia Phillies.

1995: Number of divisions increased from four to six in the previous season (which was cut short due to a strike); Braves were placed in the geographically correct National League East. Season was 144 games long due to a late start; Braves ran away with the NL East, going 90-54 and finishing 21 games ahead of the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. Defeated the Colorado Rockies in the best-of-five National League Division Series (four games), swept the Reds in the NLCS, and defeated the Cleveland Indians in the World Series (six games). This was their third pennant in the streak, but it was the only time during their streak that they actually won the World Series.

1996: Went 96-66 and won the NL East by eight games over the Montréal Expos. Swept the Dodgers in the NLDS, won a seven-game NLCS over the St. Louis Cardinals, but lost the World Series to the New York Yankees (six games). This was their fourth pennant in the streak.

1997: Won 101 games and won the NL East by nine games over the Florida Marlins (the NL Wild Card). Swept the Houston Astros in the NLDS, but lost the NLCS in six games to the eventual World Champions, the aforementioned Marlins.

1998: Broke their franchise record set five years prior by winning 106 games and winning the division by 18 games over the Mets. Swept the Chicago Cubs in the NLDS, but lost the NLCS in six games to the San Diego Padres.

1999: Their third straight 100-win season (103 wins); finishing 6.5 games ahead of the Mets. Won the NLDS in four games over the Astros, and the NLCS in six games over the Mets, but were swept by the Yankees in the World Series. This was their fifth and final pennant in the streak, and the last pennant overall (to date).

2000: 95-67 season; winning the NL East by only one game over the Mets. Swept by the Cardinals in the NLDS. This was the only time during the streak where they failed to win a postseason game.

2001: Their worst season during the streak (88-74); winning the NL East by two games over the Phillies. Swept the Astros in the NLDS, but lost a five-game NLCS to the eventual World Series Champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks. To date, this was the last time the Braves won a postseason series.

2002: Went 101-59 and won the NL East by 19 games over the Expos. Lost a five game NLDS to the Giants.

2003: Went 101-61 and won the NL East by 10 games over the Marlins. Lost a five game NLDS to the Cubs.

2004: Won the NL East by 10 games again (96-66), this time over the Phillies. Lost a five-game NLDS to the Astros.

2005: The final year of the streak; went 90-72 and won the NL East by two games over the Phillies. Lost the NLDS to the Astros again, this time in four games.

Atlanta Braves' streak by the numbers:

Wins: 1363
Average # of Wins: 97.36
100-Win Seasons: 6
Postseason Games (record): 125 (63-62)
World Series Games (record): 29 (11-18)
Pennants: 5
World Championships: 1
