Last season, the Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes met in the Eastern Conference Final, with the Bruins sweeping the Canes. This year, the Bruins seem to be a few steps removed from that team who came within one win of capturing the Stanley Cup. It definitely showed in the Round Robin, as the Bruins--who entered at #1 due to their 100 points--lost all three games in regulation and dropped to #4. Instead of what would have been a dream Bruins/Habs series, the defending holders of the Prince of Wales Trophy face a Carolina team coming off sweeping the New York Rangers in dominant fashion. I said this on social media: the Bruins took the Round Robin as an excuse to just phone it in. They had the "wake us when the actual playoffs start" attitude, and it will be their downfall. Carolina tore up the Qualifying Round and this series is their chance to get payback, and they will get it. Prediction: Hurricanes in six #1 |

Bruins 4, Hurricanes 3 (2OT) Multiple OTs pushed this game back to early this morning, but more than one OT was needed in this one. Patrice Bergeron won it 1:13 into the second OT. |
