The main reason why I am enamored with this meeting between the Vancouver Canucks and the Minnesota Wild: it's a flashback to the old Northwest Division. The Canucks and Wild were in the Northwest Division along with the Avalanche, Flames, and Oilers from 1998-2013, and the two teams met in the playoffs in the very wild (no pun intended) 2003 tournament, which saw Minnesota oust the Canucks during their Cinderella run. The names have changed, and in Vancouver, they include Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, and the biggest name on the team, Quinn Hughes (a Calder candidate). While the Canucks are thriving, the Wild, well, are fortunate to be in this situation. They came off a terrible season that saw them in the bottom of the Central Division, but here they are in the Qualifying Round. I think this will be a close series; we may see quite a bit of OT, though Vancouver should win and advance. Prediction: Canucks in 5 #1 |

Canucks 5, Wild 4 (OT) 11 seconds of OT is all it took for Christopher Tanev to score and send the Canucks to the West Quarters against either Dallas or St. Louis. |
