This thread will focus on the NBA Playoffs: the standings, the matchups, the games and noteworthy performances. As we know, a total of 16 teams make the playoffs- the top 8 from the Eastern and Western Conferences.

UPDATED 8/15/20

EASTERN CONFERENCE

1. Milwaukee Bucks 56-17
2. Toronto Raptors 53-19
3. Boston Celtics 48-24
4. Indiana Pacers 45-28
5. Miami Heat 44-29
6. Philadelphia 76ers 43-30
7. Brooklyn Nets 35-37
8. Orlando Magic 33-40

WESTERN CONFERENCE

1. Los Angeles Lakers 52-19
2. Los Angeles Clippers 49-23
3. Denver Nuggets 46-27
4 Houston Rockets 44-28
5. Oklahoma City Thunder 44-28
6. Utah Jazz 44-28
7. Dallas Mavericks 43-32
8. Portland Trail Blazers 35-39
9. Memphis Grizzlies 34-39

All playoff series are best of seven games. Higher seeded teams in each series get four home games. This is true for the finals as well. If the #1 seeds from each conference reach the finals, the team with the best regular season record gets four home games.

As of 8/12/20 the following teams have clinched playoff spots.

Milwaukee Bucks
Toronto Raptors
Boston Celtics
Miami Heat
Indiana Pacers
Philadelphia 76ers
Brooklyn Nets
Orlando Magic

LA Lakers
LA Clippers
Denver Nuggets
Utah Jazz
Oklahoma City Thunder
Houston Rockets
Dallas Mavericks
*Memphis Grizzlies play Portland Trail Blazers to decide 8th seed in West.

Under the restart rules if the number 9 seed finishes within 4 games of the number 8 seed, that initiates a 2-game "play in" matchup. If the 9th seed wins BOTH games, it gets the 8th playoff berth in the conference. If the 8th seed wins ONE of the two games, it maintains its 8th seeding in the conference playoffs.

In the EASTERN CONFERENCE, it seems unlikely that the number 9 Wizards can rally to finish within 4 games of the number 8 Nets. It could happen, though.

In the WESTERN CONFERENCE, things could get interesting. There are FIVE teams currently within 4 games of the number 8 Grizzlies. They are: Spurs, Trailblazers, Pelicans, Kings, and Suns. They will be battling for the number 9 spot and a shot at the playoffs.

You have to feel for the Phoenix Suns. The only team to go unbeaten in the restart, but still missed the playoffs via tiebreaker. Portland did go an impressive 6-2, but Memphis just didn't care. 2-6 in the seeding games, with the second win being the one that eliminated not only Phoenix, but also the San Antonio Spurs, who missed the playoffs for the first time since the 1996-97 season.

Portland and Memphis will face each other in the Western Conference Play-In, a two game series. As the #8 seed, Portland only has to win one of the two games to advance, while Memphis has to win both games. Winner faces the Lakers in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Yes. Phoenix was on fire after the restart. Brooklyn had a fine record in the bubble as well. The Blazers/Grizzlies games should be hard-fought ones.

Too bad about the Spurs' streak. But, on the positive side, they have a young team and a bright future.
