As a baseball fan, I'm excited for this. As a Yankees fan, I anticipated this. I even wanted this! For the Yankees, this is a chance to avenge 2017. That year, an upstart Wild Card Yankees team reached the ALCS against a high powered Astros team, and despite the disparity in their regular season records, the series went the max. The Astros took Game Seven and went on to the World Series, which they won (also in seven). In the two years that have passed, the Astros and Yankees have been established as the top two teams in the American League, and pretty much everyone had these two facing off for the pennant this year; the second time in three years. While Houston needed the max to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees were the only team not to need five--sweeping the Twins in the ALDS. Because of this, the Yankees have will enter the Final Four with the longest layoff: four days.
Fun facts: This is the Yankees' 17th ALCS appearance, which leads all of baseball. The Yankees have won 11 LCSes (the last one in 2009), which also leads all of baseball. For the Astros, this is their third straight ALCS appearance, and their seventh LCS appearance overall, counting the four times they reached the NLCS. Yankees are a different team from two years ago. 12 game improvement, new faces--one of them being Giancarlo Stanton, and we know how to win in Houston. Plus Houston used up Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole for the final two games vs TB. With that, I think #41 is on the horizon!
Prediction: Yankees in six
#1
