Last year, a 100-win season for the New York Yankees only resulted in a Wild Card Game win and a four game Division Series exit at the hands of the Boston Red Sox. This season was a mission for the Bronx Bombers, but there was a problem: Didi Gregorius started on the IL. Giancarlo Stanton got injured early in the season. So did Miguel Andujar. So did Aaron Judge. And many, many others. Despite this, the Yankees managed to win games and dominate the American League East with players such as Gio Urshela and Clint Frazier, along with DJ LeMahieu, who we acquired from the Rockies, just to name a few. Even with the star power out for the most part, the Yankees won 103 games and took the East for the first time since 2012. The Minnesota Twins dominated the American League Central for the most part, though it didn't appear to be easy. In August, the Twins' big lead appeared to slip away, with the Indians passing them by. However, that didn't last long; the Twins caught back up and stayed on top for the rest of the season, with big bats such as Jonathan Schoop, Miguel Sano, and Nelson Cruz leading the way.

Fun fact: The Twins made history as the first team to hit 300 HRs in a season. The Yankees became the second that same time. The Twins hit 307 HRs this season. The Yankees hit 306. In addition to being one-two in HRs, the clubs were also one-two in runs this year, with the Yankees leading 943-939. However, here's a glaring not-so-fun fact: the Twins' postseason history with the Yankees is a horrendous one. Regarding games, the Yankees are 13-2 in 15 postseason games against the Twins. Ironically, the Twins' two wins were at Yankee Stadium (Game 1 of the 2003 ALDS and Game 1 of the 2004 ALDS). The Yankees have won 10 straight postseason games against the Twins, including ALDS sweeps in 2009 and 2010, and the 2017 ALWC. That won't last, I'm certain, but I think it will last after this year. I do expect the Twins to make it difficult, but the Yankees will advance.

Prediction: Yankees in 4

#1

Yankees 8, Twins 2

Seven-run 3rd inning (capped off by a Didi Gregorius grand slam) puts the Yankees one win away from the ALCS.
