They say the third time is the charm. The last two seasons have seen the Los Angeles Dodgers reach the Fall Classic. However, 2017 ended with a championship loss in Game Seven at home against the Houston Astros. Last year, the Dodgers only lasted five games against the Boston Red Sox. One has to believe that it's championship or bust for the Dodgers. The fact that they set a franchise high in wins this season shows that the Boys in Blue definitely mean business. Their opponents, the Washington Nationals, mean business as well. They showed that in the NL Wild Card game against the Milwaukee Brewers, when a three run double in the eighth inning led the way for the Nats, giving them a huge victory. For the first time in the franchise's 51 year history, the Washington Nationals actually advanced in the postseason--in their first season in the post-Bryce Harper era.

Fun facts: The Expos/Nationals have an extensive postseason history with the Dodgers. The Dodgers were the Expos' opponents in the 1981 NLCS (Montréal's only postseason appearance), with the Dodgers winning the series 3-2 en route to winning the World Series (the LCS was best-of-five until 1985). The teams met again in 2016, with the Dodgers defeating the relocated and renamed Nationals in five games in the NLDS. Though the Nats advanced for the first time ever, they still have not won a postseason series. With the Dodgers as strong as ever, that will not change.

Prediction: Dodgers sweep

#1

Strasburg outduels Kershaw; Scherzer pitches the eighth in relief. Nationals even NLDS.

Dodgers score seven runs in the sixth inning--capped by Justin Turner's three-run HR--moving Los Angeles one win away from the NLCS.

Ryan Zimmermann's three run shot and Max Scherzer's gem were key; Nats force Game Five back in LA.

Dave Roberts' stupidity strikes again. Joe Kelly surrenders a grand slam to Howie Kendrick in the 10th; Nationals win a postseason series for the first time in franchise history, and reach the NLCS for the first time since 1981.

Consider the fact that Clayton Kershaw was in control after pitching the 7th. But when Washington hit back-to-back homers on two consecutive pitches, the big time knock against him en route to the Baseball Hall of Fame will be this:

A stellar pitcher in the regular season, along similar lines to that of Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, and to a certain extent Oral Hersheiser. However, when the biggest moments arrive in the playoffs is unable to get out of very sticky situations.
