The 2019 MLB Postseason begins with the National League Wild Card contest between the Washington Nationals and the Milwaukee Brewers; a battle between two teams who thrived despite adversity. The Nationals played their first season without their shining star, Bryce Harper, who signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent. In an ironic twist of fate, the Phillies ended up with a .500 season, and as for the Nats, they rose up and reached the postseason. The Brewers are a season removed from falling one win short of reaching the World Series for the first time since 1982, but they had Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun, and Mike Moustakas leading the way. However, the team lost Yelich for the season earlier this month, but that didn't stop the Brewers, who went on a winning tear and surpassed the struggling Cubs in the NL Central standings. They reached the postseason but lost the NL Central on the final day, so their journey begins with the one-game opener in DC.

Here's a not-so-fun fact: the Nationals have never advanced in the postseason in their franchise's history. Yes, the Montréal Expos won a "Division Series" in 1981, but that was a series created due to the fact that a strike took place that year. Officially, they have never won an actual playoff series; 1981 was the Expos' only postseason appearance, and every appearance made as the Nationals saw them defeated in the Division Series. In the case of this year, all Washington has to do is win this one game to advance. But they won't do that; Milwaukee has too much talent for them, even without Yelich.

Prediction: Brewers by 6

#1

Nationals 4, Brewers 3

For the first time in franchise history, the Nationals advanced in the postseason thanks to Juan Soto's three-run double in the eighth.

Congrats to the Nats and their fans.

They face a tough opponent in the NLDS.
