We are just days away from another Super Bowl, and this year, the New England Patriots will face off against the Los Angeles Rams. The Patriots are in their third straight Super Bowl and their 11th overall, but it came despite a longer bad start than usual. The Pats suffered some embarrassing losses this year, but their 11-5 record was enough to finish second overall in the AFC behind the Chiefs. They defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in the Divisional Playoff, and thanks to usual help from the refs (and the opposing defense being MIA), they won in OT over the Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

The Rams are in their third season back in Los Angeles after 21 seasons in St. Louis, which saw them reach two Super Bowls and win one in the 1999 season. This journey has been an interesting one. Their first season back in LA saw them go 4-12, but after only changing the head coach, the Rams went 11-5 and won the NFC West, only to lose the Wild Card Playoff. After obtaining some key defensive names, the Rams went off to a hot start and ended up 13-3. The Rams defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional Playoff, and regarding the NFC Championship, the Rams won in controversial fashion over the New Orleans Saints in OT, putting them in the Super Bowl for the first time in 17 years.

Some more trivial notes. This is a rematch of Super Bowl XXXVI, which saw the Brady/Belichick Patriots win their first of five SBs over the then-St. Louis Rams, thanks to an Adam Vinatieri last second FG. The Pats were 14 point underdogs (yes, back then, the Patriots were underdogs) in the game, making it the biggest SB upset since Super Bowl III. This is the first time that Los Angeles is represented in the Super Bowl since the then-Los Angeles Raiders won Super Bowl XVIII, and this is the Rams' first SB appearance as a LA team since reaching Super Bowl XIV. Plus, this is the second Boston vs LA championship meeting in less than four months; the Red Sox and Dodgers faced off in the World Series last October. Every league has featured a Boston vs LA championship except for the NHL, though a Bruins/Kings Final almost happened in 2013. This is Brady and the Patriots' second chance at tying the Steelers with six SB wins. And like last year, they'll come up short.

Prediction: Rams by 6

#1

A few points worth mentioning:

Bill Cowher from The NFL Today says that it will come down to the Rams youth against the Patriots experience.

Will Los Angeles handle the intense pressure of playing on football's biggest stage? In 1980, they handled it very well for 3 1/2 quarters. The only mistake was when backup QB Vince Ferragamo threw an interception into the teeth of the vaunted Steel Curtain defense.

Franco Harris and John Stallworth again had another huge performance. And yes, Super Bowl X MVP Lynn Swann made another incredible high-flying circus type catch in the end zone.

In the end, SB XIV MVP Terry Bradshaw stepped up just like he did the year before against Dallas.

Second, EA Sports has the Rams winning 30-27.

Bottom line, it should be a terrific game.
As I often say, turnovers and avoiding stupid penalties should decide the game.

For the Rams, Todd Gurley needs to make sure that he gets 5, 6, 7 yards a crack. Keep Tom Brady and Gronk off the field for as long as possible. Jared Goff, like Ferragamo should rely on mostly short, safe passes to open up some lanes against the multiple changing schemes that the Patriots like to use (even though their key people have been changing faster than your typical women's fashion magazines).

For New England, they already what their bread and butter is. We have seen this song and dance before. Most people, including me have mentioned that this is the worst Patriots team in the Brady/Belichick era just to get the right to play in the Super Bowl.

Above all, the 5 other Patriots Super Bowl games have been close. When all is said and done, I think the margin will be no more than six points either way.

Brent Musburger of VSin (and former host of CBS' The Super Bowl Today pregame show has the Patriots favored by three, so we will see how it goes.

Patriots 13, Rams 3

The lowest scoring SB in history goes to the Patriots; Rams offense goes MIA. Pats win sixth SB and tie Steelers. Julian Edelman named SB MVP.

Very lifeless game for the most part, as both defenses stepped up.

With the Rams having punted on 8 straight possessions, it wasn't until the third quarter when the only touchdown was scored.

But just like in Super Bowl XIV (the largest crowd in Super Bowl history with nearly 104,000 people jamming the Rose Bowl) had backup QB Vince Ferragamo throwing an interception to Jack Lambert with 5:24 to play, similar case as Jared Goff's INT happened with 4:21 left on the clock. It was the only turnover of both games for the L.A. Rams.

Julian Edelman was a very worthy selection as Super Bowl MVP, making the catches to keep drives going.

The lowest point total ever (16) eclipsed the old mark of 22 set in 1975, when Pittsburgh edged out Minnesota 16-6 in Super Bowl IX.

And the Rams join the 1972 Miami Dolphins having only scored 3 points at the end of the first half in Super Bowl VI.

Terrible game.
One of the worst Super Bowls ever.
What happened to the offensive genius Sean McVay?

I can still clutch on to the fact that Joe Montana never threw a pick in the Super Bowl.
