For the first time since 2009, the Yankees won 100 games. A nice round number and usually good enough to finish in first, but Boston won 108 games. So we have to settle for being one of the strongest Wild Cards in baseball history. In fact, this year's American League Wild Card game is the strongest in history as far as win total is concerned, as our opponents, the Oakland Athletics, won 97 games. This is the Yankees' second straight postseason appearance, while the A's are in the October dance for the first time since 2014. This game also serves as the latest chapter in the Yankees/A's postseason history, which has included classic ALCS meetings in the 1970s, and a pair of ALDS meetings in 2000 and 2001, the latter year being memorable for Derek Jeter's season saving play at the plate in Game Three. This will be an amazing contest, but we all know who's winning.

Prediction: Yankees by 6

#1

The key is for Oakland's pitchers to keep Giancarlo Stanton and other Yankees hitters in the park. Otherwise, it will be quick curtains for the A's.

However, no other team that I know can outsmart and outthink their opponents better than the Oakland Athletics. Just when you think you have them beat, their bats will string a bunch of hits together and a huge lead could turn into either a tie game or a deficit for the home team.

Something to keep in mind on Wednesday night.

Yankees 7, A's 2

Judge and Stanton both homer; four-run sixth sets up epic Yankees/Red Sox ALDS.

So much for the new-fangled "opener" method. Krush hits one, but it was too little too late by that point.
Would've been nice to see one NorCal team make it farther, but with Cutch on the Evil Empire, I am only 4% happy for the winning team.
