Melissa tweeted this morning that she is returning to TV weather as the new weekend weather anchor at CBS17 in Raleigh, North Carolina. This follows her departure as the weekday weather anchor at ABC13 in Lynchburg, Virginia, where she spent the past 5 years before leaving on February 28. She will make an appearance on today's noon broadcast before starting her job on Saturday.

This begs the question; why the move? Maybe it was to get away from the 5 day a week grind of going into a station at around 3am. Maybe she wanted to move closer to her native Atlanta, Georgia. Raleigh is certainly a bigger market than tiny Lynchburg, Virginia, but to go from a 5 day gig to a 2 day gig may be a step down.

Not necessarily... if she goes to a bigger market, the increase in market share / pay could justify letting her work the lesser scheduled hours without the grind. Maybe there's something else going on in her personal life that demands her to devote more time to it? Who knows...

Maybe she did it to be closer to her hometown like you said. It happens, Crystal Egger and Maria LaRosa left TWC to be near family. Also, Ashley Batey who used work to at a station in my neck of the woods left to work in Ohio where her parents live though I believe another reason she left because she was demoted. For seven months she was the meteorologist in the morning show. However, when WTSP change the morning show Spring of 2017 only Hillary Zalla was retained from the previous morning show and they replaced Ashley with Grant Gilmore who I still don't like. I'm sorry he should start out on the weekends not got the morning show gig from the get-go. I know that's more the bosses than him but still. At least he stayed here unlike Jackie Fernandez (who left less than a year on the job because she didn't want to do the news anymore and move to be closer to family) and Courtney Curtis (who left after a year, unsure why). The Irony is Allison Kropff who was replaced by Fernandez and possibly Curtis as well is still here at WTSP as the afternoon anchor.

The irony was that Allison did come back to the morning show on a temporary basis. After Jackie left, Courtney (your girl) took over for a while. I don't think it was permanent but she did shoot an Ad for Brightside. Then they moved her back to the afternoons and then Caitlin came just last summer. Also, to answer your question, she a new talent and usually they give the weekend gigs (more like 50-50 depending on the open spots). Plus, she'll get busy real soon with hurricane season coming. Maybe she wants to get a gig in Atlanta in a few years or so.
