For non New Yorkers like me he was known but not well known until CSpan did a series back in the 90s where they went around simulcasting radio shows. It was those few shows that culminated in Imus getting the contract with msnbc. Despite all that he did and said, he was controversial after all. But alot of would be nobodies had it not been for him.

By the time he was hired to do the morning show for Fox Business in 2009, his shtick really changed.

At least, he joins Roger Ailes way up in the sky (wonder what they will both talk about?)

I wonder if Alexis Glick would have stay on FBN if not for Imus.

Is it really “bullying” if the other person rips you first?

NOBODY deserves to be treated the way he did Contessa and Janice Dean

The ups and downs of Imus "The I-Man". Didn't know who he was in 2001. But started following him a little then. He was ok but cranky and a clown. His sarcasticness was off putting to many. But at the same time wonderful guy. He hated all sides of the political spectrum. He mistreated women on the show especially Contessa Brewer during
her brief stint on MSNBC and Dana Perino as a guest on FBN. Yet he had a cancer camp for kids and married in the 90s a woman 26 years younger. Its something else. Was able to hear WABC tributes on Sid and Bernie's show with the former Imus sports guy and his former producer. It began when Imus moved out of New York and took over for Imus when show ended in 2018.

Also, if you saw the 30 for 30 of Mike and The Mad Dog, it seemed Imus was the glue held them together (also without him no Mike and the Mad Dog to begin with). When he was fired, the show shortly ended.

Not exactly true, Imus was fired in April 2007, Mike & Chris’ final show was Aug 2008.
Their egos had both gotten too big, I think they both wanted to be solo acts and Dog got a big money deal from Sirius to leave.
Not sure what Imus (or anyone) could’ve done to keep them together.

It should be interesting to hear what (if anything) Howard Stern has to say regarding Imus when he starts back up from the holiday break.
To say those two didn't get along would be an understatement.... A classic radio feud dating back to the early '80s.
For his part, Imus said shortly before retiring in 2018 that he didn't have as big of a problem with Stern as he thought Stern had with him, and credited Stern with becoming a very good interviewer in recent years.
