The cable sister station to Superstation WGN that started on New Year's Day 1993 will be going away for good on December 31.

Thanks to Nexstar Media of Dallas, this news comes three months after the merger of both Channel 9 and WGN Radio 720 AM.

Several news, weather, and sports personalities managed to cut their teeth there including the likes of Paul Konrad, Peggy Kusinski, Dina Bair, and for loyal followers of ESPN--"Greeny" Mike Greenberg was a key fixture for several years in the 1990's.

The station also did live Chicago Cubs games in its' early years. But thanks to the changing media landscape, this means simply that WGN will be doing yes, more news on top of their 70 plus hours per week. They are also planning stand alone shows for politics (why not?) and sports (because diehard fans want to know.)

Also, they were extremely late in converting to HD--first seen in 2017.

So, there goes another one.
As I often say for stations and practically any business that goes away,

You can always find them on YouTube and Wikipedia.
